What is the Fen Jacket?
The Sprayway Fen is a 2.5-layer, waterproof jacket designed primarily for faster-paced activities like fast hiking. It offers ample protection and breathability with lesser weight, making it ideal for changeable conditions on the hill. The Fen Jacket even works well as a backup layer that you can stuff into a backpack for emergencies.
What is it made of?
The face fabric comprises recycled polyester, which offers a smooth, durable finish without excessive bulk. The material is printed with a PU coating to enhance weather and abrasion resistance to withstand various terrains and conditions, providing the necessary reliability to keep going.
A HydroDRY® 2.5-layer membrane keeps the rain at bay without compromising breathability, letting sweat vapour escape so that your jacket doesn't begin to feel clammy. HydroDRY® is Sprayway's own proprietary membrane and makes a great alternative to Gore-Tex®, so don't be put off just because this jacket doesn't have that iconic diamond label!
The jacket is finished with a PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent) that helps the outer fabric to bead water to enhance breathability and minimise dampness. Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs), previously commonly used in outdoor products, can't 'break down', so once they reach nature (usually via water waste from factories), they stay out in the environment and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFCs are suspected carcinogens and are known to affect reproduction and hormone production in mammals. For these reasons, many brands are now using PFC-free alternatives to reduce the impact manufacturing has on our beautiful planet.
What are its features?
The grown-on hill lite hood feels light and provides better mobility for your head and neck when wearing a hood. It provides a more comfortable, stable feel and helps prevent restriction when wearing the hood. You can adjust the hood with the rear adjustment, should you need to. It also has a semi-elasticated opening for comfort and a wired stiffened peak for reinforcement.
A centre front zip fastening provides easy access, protected with an internal storm guard to help keep the weather out, even when you're wearing the zip partly open.
Two zipped hand pockets provide basic storage for essentials like trail snacks and energy gels. The pocket bags are made with mesh, so leaving your pockets open will allow for extra airflow if you're working up a sweat.
A semi-elasticated hem and cuffs cinch in the material to keep the breeze out, helping your body regulate temperature more efficiently.
