What is the Speed 50?
It's a 50-litre backpack designed primarily for lightweight adventures in technical terrain. The Speed Backpack has been tried and tested virtually everywhere, from the Canadian Rockies to Patagonia's iconic Fitz Roy ridgeline, and is sure to survive years of abuse, season after season.
What is it made of?
The main body fabric is made with BD 'X-rip', which comprises 210D nylon and has a UTS™ coating for additional reinforcement to enhance durability and weather resistance. This material is incredibly strong and hardwearing to survive bumps and scrapes in rugged terrain, ensuring you'll have this backpack for years to come.
A welded front abrasion patch also increases longevity in high-wear areas by improving protection against rock, ice axes and crampon spikes.
Which backsystem does it use?
Speed backpacks are built with an updated moisture-wicking backpanel to increase comfort for long ascents, helping to prevent contents inside from jabbing you in the back. Its low bulk, breathable construction is ideal for intense pursuits as it helps to prevent sweat from building up and keeps the weight down to a minimum.
Redesigned shoulder straps are made with dual-density foam for improved load distribution, making the approach that little bit more comfortable. The foam still keeps to the streamlined nature of the pack, again helping to reduce weight and bulk without compromising performance.
The hipbelt features a fixed webbing belt and helps secure the pack, reducing bounce as you move. It also lightly pulls the load down into your hips to help reduce the risk of pain or injury.
What are its features?
This pack has a strippable design, allowing you to reduce weight dramatically if you prioritise the grams; removable features include the top lid, framesheet/bivvy pad, hipbelt and webbing belt.
The top-loading entry point features a drawcord skirt closure to protect items inside from harsh weather, spindrift, rock, rain and ice, whilst the tuck-away rope strap allows you to carry ropes without them taking up essential space in the main compartment.
A dogbone ice tool attachment enhances the security of the micro ice tool PickPockets™, and removable, snag-free crampon straps allow you to attach and organise your gear neatly whilst keeping them easily accessible.
Surface-mounted, glove-friendly main hood buckles are easy to use with chunky gloves and numb fingers, ensuring minimum faff when trying to access gear or pack away after a long day.
