What is the Zealot 30?
The Zealot 30 is a functional climbing backpack designed for climbers who prioritise comfort, carry and organisation. It provides efficient, easy access to gear and is highly durable to withstand regular use, whether you're hitting the rocks at your local crag or heading to the gym for training.
What is it made of?
This pack is primarily made of bluesign® approved 840D recycled ballistic ripstop nylon. Ripstop nylon has been developed especially to resist tears and scrapes, making it perfect for climbing rugged mountain terrain. It's guaranteed to survive and thrive after years of beatings against jagged rocks and gritty surfaces.
The bag also has a 630D recycled high tenacity diamond ripstop nylon base and accents for added reinforcement.
All materials are coated with a PFC/PFAS-free DWR (durable water repellent), which encourages light rain, spills and snow to bead off the fabric instead of soaking through and wetting out all of your kit. PFC/PFAS-free treatments are much more sustainable than regular treatments as they don't contain chemicals that can damage the environment through waste water from factories.
Which backsystem does it use?
To keep bulk to a minimum, Osprey has used a molded-EVA backpanel and a HDPE framesheet in the back of this pack to give it structure. It feels comfortable when mounted and helps to stop kit inside the bag from digging into your back.
It's not the most techy design in terms of Osprey backsystems, but this is so that weight is kept to a minimum to suit climbers hauling these bags up long routes.
What are the features?
An EVA foam and spacer mesh harness provide plenty of padding to stop the straps from digging in if you're carrying a heavy load. There's a sternum strap on the front for added security, which is removable if you'd prefer not to use it.
The hip belt pulls the weight into your hips to help alleviate discomfort in the lower back. Again, this belt is removable if weight is a priority, and you need to strip everything down to a minimum.
The Zealot 30 has a roll-top closure at the top of the pack, which provides better weather protection and is quick to use. It has a vertical zip to expand access and visibility into the main compartment, with webbing belts and hooks for adjustment.
At the front, there's a large panel zip compartment which is convenient for separating and organising your kit. It's also handy if you want to double this pack up as an everyday rucksack for work yet plan on hitting the climbing gym after your shift. You can keep your everyday items in the main compartment and put your rock shoes and climbing clothing in the front.
Dual front panel pockets provide extra storage for smaller items like snacks, energy gels etc. One of these pockets is closed with a zipper for security, and the other is completely open if you want to tuck away items that you'll later want to grab quickly.
Inside the pack is a sleeve that can be used for both laptops or hydration bladders - although, of course, never at the same time. Internal organisation pockets are ideal for more valuable items like headphones or a wallet, and a key fob is perfect for attaching house and car keys, giving you the reassurance they won't fall out when you're on the move.
Finally, there's a loop for an LED light attachment for small lights if you're exploring after hours (please note, light not included).
Features:
- Roll top closure with vertical zip to expand access and visibility into the main compartment; with adjustable webbing and aluminium hook
- Large front panel zip compartment to keep gear/ gym specific items separate from the everyday compartment – so your chalk and stinky shoes don't mingle with your laptop or snacks
- Dual front panel pockets; one with a zipper closure, one open/drop-in
- Internal multi-function pocket for laptop or reservoir (never both)
- Internal org pockets with key fob
- Loop for LED light attachment (light not included)
