Rab Ascendor 45:50 Backpack Orion Blue

Season:2024S R

Brand:Rab

Code:QAP-28-ORB-M

What is the Ascendor 45:50?

It's a technical climbing pack suitable for challenging ascents, multi-day mountain adventures, ski touring and even longer rock routes in various seasons. It has plenty of storage options for various kit and equipment, a comfy padded back and tough, partly recycled construction.

What is it made of?

Rab has used a combination of materials to construct this pack. It uses a mix of 35% recycled Robic Trishield Dura, Hydroshield and 50% Recycled Mesh Dobby. This combination creates a tough, durable face that can withstand rock and abrasion well. It feels soft and smooth, offers more flexibility for comfort and convenience, and can withstand exposed conditions better, resisting discolouration from the sun and wear that would usually occur from heavy use.

Which backsystem does it use?

The Ascendor uses a Tri-Flex™ carry system with a fixed back length and removable support.

The Tri-Flex™ carry system is designed with a moulded, snow shedding back panel that feels light and comfortable when the pack is mounted. The length of the back is fixed, reducing the weight and bulk of the overall design and measuring 19 inches long.

What are its features?

Overall, the Ascendor 45:50 has a streamlined, refined design which doesn't only look fantastic, but feels it too! This pack is fantastic for technical ascents, whether climbing, scrambling, or both, as it doesn't get in your way so much compared to other chunkier technical packs.

The traditional style lid is detachable, giving you the option to reduce weight if you're counting the grams for longer trips. It has an outer zip pocket and an inner map pocket for additional storage alongside the main compartments to help ensure smaller belongings don't get buried in the bottom of your bag. The top loader with a side zip allows quick, easy access to the larger compartment. The main closure uses a strong metal buckle which is easy to use with cold fingers and chunky gloves.

The central compartment gives you plenty of space to pack maps, extra clothing, kit or climbing shoes. When the pack is loaded, you can cinch in dead space using the top tensioner or upper and lower side compression straps.

Various gear attachments suit multiple types of kit, including two Headlocker ice axe attachments with removable lashes, a front daisy chain and under lid rope strap. There's also an A-Frame ski carry option to suit multi-activity days in the mountains or on the slopes.

You can easily fit a hydration bladder up to three litres in capacity in the designated slot, saving you the space and weight of bulky water bottles.

The carry system has various adaptations and adjustments to optimise the fit and comfort of the pack.

A sternum strap pulls the load closer to the body, helping it stop wobbling as you move. A small safety whistle is attached to the strap for easy access in an emergency, where you may need to attract attention quickly. If you're unsure, the universal signal that you are in danger and need help is three long blows on your whistle.

The hipbelt helps draw the bottom of the pack closer to the back, distributing the weight more easily to promote better balance and support. It has gear loops alongside removable padding and webbing if you want to reduce weight and bulk. You can even remove the whole hipbelt if you prefer not to use it!

1Chest

Run the tape around the fullest part of your chest, the tape should be just below the arm pit and over the shoulder blades whilst horizontal to the floor.

2Waist

Measure around your natural waist as show in the diagram

3Inseam

Measure your inside leg from crotch to ankle blone keeping your leg straight: not as easy as it sounds, you could take a pair of trousers that you already own, that fit you well, and measure from the crotch to the bottom of the leg.

4Sleeve

This is a bit more tricky! Measure from the top of your spine (at the bottom of your neck) to your elbow and on the your wrist

5Arm

You should place the beginning of the measuring tape behind your shoulder, and feed it out following your arm making sure to pass both the elbow joint and the wrist, as pictured. You should take the measurement at the point where you would like the sleeve to end. This is usually just past your wrist.
