What is the Kajka 65?
It's an exceptionally durable and sturdy advanced trekking backpack designed for comfort and practicality when carrying heavy loads. Full of Fjallraven's iconic trekking style, this is the third update to the Kajka since its launch in 2008.
The update comes in the form of a new lighter-weight design, increased content of recycled materials and improved repairability. Built to last a lifetime, the Kajka 65 is a true investment piece that can be passed down through generations for trekking adventures.
What is it made from?
The Kajka 65 is made from a combination of Fjallraven's iconic Vinylon F fabric, recycled 500D nylon and a smooth 210D recycled nylon lining.
Outer: The main material used to create this pack is Vinylon F, renowned for its use on the classic Kanken backpacks. Being a proven Fjallraven favourite, this highly durable material is guaranteed to last you for years to come, being able to resist regular wear and abrasion well. It's easy to take care of, so you can give it a good wash when it's looking a little tired to freshen it up.
Extremely durable 500D recycled nylon is used throughout the bag to reinforce high-wear areas, helping it to withstand a lifetime of scrapes, bashes and abrasion. Being recycled, it has a reduced environmental footprint while still being just as durable and long-lasting.
Lining: Fjallraven has lined the bag with smooth recycled polyamide (nylon), which is robust enough to withstand years of scrapes and abrasion from your kit being loaded inside. Being smooth, it also reassures you that the pack won't scratch fragile items such as sunglasses or mobile phones when you're on the move.
What backsystem does it use?
The Kajka’s well-ventilated carrying system has great lumbar support and uses a unique wooden frame construction crafted from FSC-certified birch. This innovative frame helps to give the pack structure and relieve back pain from carrying heavy loads. It also has a 90% lower carbon footprint than its aluminium predecessor used in the original Kajka.
The backsystem is fully adjustable, allowing you to adapt it to your height and back length for optimum support. Ergonomic shoulder straps and a supportive hip belt enhance the overall performance and comfort of the carry system, helping it to keep stable and prevent it from setting you off balance or weighing you down too unnecessarily.
The updated hip belt is more adjustable than the previous version. It features velcro adjustments to dial in the perfect fit, optimising the pack's cushioning for an even higher degree of comfort to various body shapes.
What are its features?
The Kajka is jam-packed, full of features, so let's start at the top. The Kajka's floating top lid can be removed and either attached to the backpack's chest strap as a front pouch or worn as a hip pack. It's ideal for keeping a close eye on your valuables or days when you only need a small pack for excursions or shorter hikes. The lid features a bungy cord on the top for additional storage of on/off items like a beanie, gloves or waterproof jacket.
The main top-loading compartment features a snow lock to help keep water and snow well away from your belongings. The main compartment has a full front zipper opening, which gives you an excellent overview of your pack's contents, minimising time spent trying to find something buried at the bottom. There is a separate bottom compartment perfect for storing your sleeping bag or separating dirty gear.
For storage, there are two roomy bottle pockets that are angled for ease of use and two large side pockets. The side pockets open all the way around so they can easily be accessed from both the front and back of the pack. Practical zippered pockets in the top lid and hip belt provide storage for quick-access items such as a first aid kit, a mobile phone and plenty of trail snacks. There is also the option of attaching a Kajka Side Pocket (sold separately) to the front of the pack should you require even more storage.
Side compression straps cinch in dead space and help prevent contents inside from wobbling around as you move. Two of these straps sit conveniently over the large side pockets to reduce excess space inside.
Pole attachments on the front straps allow you to secure trekking poles and ice axes, which can easily be removed should you wish. For added hill safety, there is an integrated whistle on the chest strap, just in case.
And finally, there's a handy rain cover included to protect your belongings from getting wet when the heavens open. The rain cover features reflective details to help improve your visibility in low light.

Kajka 65L Review The Kajka 65 is the kind of rucksack you buy once and hand down through the family. Everything about it screams sturdiness, from the bombproof Vinylon F fabric to the reinforced base and that ingenious birch-wood frame that shrugs off heavy loads like it's nothing. This pack is built with the old-school mentality of "buy well, buy once." Trek with it season after season, and you'll quickly see why the Kajka has a reputation as a backpack that could easily be passed through generations. Watch Trekitt's Kajka 65 Review Kajka 65 Weight and Capacity The Fjällräven Kajka 65 offers a generous 65 litres of volume, providing ample space for all your multi-day trek essentials—gear, clothing, and more. Despite that spacious interior, it maintains a robust build weighing in at approximately 3.15kg (about 6.9lb) for the M/L variant and even slightly lighter at 3.14kg for the S/M. This weight reflects the thoughtful design choices, like the durable Vinylon F fabric, reinforced structure, and wooden frame, that prioritise stability and comfort under load, making the Kajka 65 less about ultralight trekking and more about balanced, reliable performance on demanding adventures.
Birch-Wood Frame The Kajka 65 features a birch-wood frame that delivers steel-like strength with natural flexibility, keeping heavy loads stable and comfortable. Birch is famously tough—it was used in furniture and even early aircraft—and here, it ensures a pack that feels solid on any terrain. The frame is also specially treated with linseed oil to enhance its durability and weather resistance. Linseed oil, derived from flax seeds, has been used for centuries to preserve wood, protecting it against moisture, cracking, and warping while bringing out its natural resilience.
