What is the Speed Lite 25?
Speedy, sustainable and lightweight, Deuter's Speed Lite 25 provides 25 litres of capacity and a multitude of storage options for organising kit just as good as Marie Kondo.
What is it made of?
The Speed Lite is crafted with a combination of 140D and 100D Recycled Nylon, durable enough to withstand regular use and abrasion from rough surfaces like jagged rocks. The body fabric is bluesign® certified, giving it the stamp of approval from sustainability experts, according to bluesign® standards.
The material is 100% recycled from pre-consumer waste and PFC-free, meaning no per- or poly-fluorinated chemicals are used in the production process, as these chemicals would cause damage to the environment once released in waste water from factories.
What backsystem does it use?
The carry system features Deuter's Speed Lite system, which includes a close-fitting, ergonomic padded back that uses 3D Air Mesh for comfort, support and breathability. The padding ensures that the kit inside your pack doesn't dig in as you move without adding excessive weight and bulk or feeling super sweaty during warmer months.
There's a built-in, tensioned Delrin® frame surrounding the back panel for reinforcement and structure. The frame is light as a feather, flexible and removable if you're counting the grams for your next adventure and need to lighten the load as much as possible.
At the front of the pack, there's a precision adjustable sternum strap and stabiliser straps to draw the top of the load closer to the body. Shoulder straps are ergonomic and fully padded for comfort, and a detachable waist belt helps to balance the weight across your back. The hip belt has breathable hip fins on each side that are thicker and more comfortable to wear with a heavier load.
What are its features?
The pack is fastened with a zipper at the top. Each zip has a sturdy pull that is durable and easy to use, even when wearing chunky gloves or mitts.
For storage, the main compartment has plenty of room for a shell jacket, climbing shoes, lunch or maps, with a stretch compartment inside that is handy for separating clothes from your kit and so forth. There's a zippered valuables pocket on the top for smaller belongings such as a mobile phone or wallet and a key clip to keep your house or car keys from slipping out on the trails. One of the shoulder straps and the hip belt both have pockets for bits and bobs like a small GPS device, hill snacks or energy gels.
A glasses stow system on the shoulder strap gives you quick and easy access should you need them, and two stretch side pockets are perfect for placing water bottles, keeping them from taking precious space up inside the bag. If you prefer using water reservoirs, this pack is also compatible with a hydration bladder of up to three litres.
Heading off to the local crag for a climb? The Speed Lite also has external gear loops for bulkier pieces of kit. These loops can also be used as docking loops for the Deuter Helmet Holder (sold separately), allowing you to store your climbing helmet safely and giving you one less thing to carry by hand during the walk-in. A stretchy mesh pocket on the front allows you to separate wet kit or stash items you might need to grab in a hurry.
If you're a fan of walking poles, then good news! The Speed Lite 25 has walking pole attachments, so you can fold them up and hook them onto your pack when not in use.
Compression straps on each side effectively reduce the load movement, and to finish, Deuter has cleverly added an SOS label with printed instructions designed to help minimise mistakes during emergencies in worst-case scenarios.
