What is the Firelite?
This lightweight sleeping bag provides exceptional warmth and outstanding performance - suitable for summer mountaineering or lower altitude Alpine adventures in spring and autumn. With an excellent warmth to weight ratio, it's ideal for adventurers who want to explore the mountains without being weighed down by heavy kit.
What is it made of?
The Firelite is constructed using Plasma™ 10D on the outer and lining, Russian Goose Down fill and a PFC free durable water repellent (DWR) for light weather resistance. PFC free finishes are a much more sustainable option, as they do not use chemicals that cause harm to the environment, advantageous for the more eco-friendly traveller.
Insulation: 90-10 Russian Goose Down is used to fill the sleeping bag, with a minimum fill power of 900. Russian Goose Down is a high quality, feather down that feels lightweight and cosy whilst still offering a substantial amount of warmth in cold temperatures. The down in this product also comes from a Down Codex® Audited Source, making it a much more ethical and sustainable option than lesser quality down on the market.
Can't quite catch the lingo? Here's a quick break down.
Fill power - Fill power measures the warmth and efficiency of the down, alongside its ability to loft/fluff up. A rating of 900 fill power means that 1oz of this down fills 900 cubic inches of space when fully lofted.
Down Codex® Audited Source - Having a Down Codex® Audited Source stamp indicates that there was no unnecessary harm caused to ducks and geese when collecting the down and that it came from an ethical, traceable source.
Outer/Lining: Plasma™ 10D - Plasma™ is a strong, durable, yet lightweight nylon fabric with high breathability. It's fantastically suited for alpinists, long-distance backpackers and mountain athletes who believe that every gram of weight makes a difference. This material is tear and abrasion resistant, making it a super sturdy choice for those looking for a hardy, reliable product.
What are its features?
Mountain Equipment has designed the Firelite sleeping bag with their own Alpine Fit 2.0, marginally wider in vital areas than their previous Alpine fit. This fit still comes up slim, it is a tapered fit which helps maximise thermal efficiency without feeling restrictive. The Alpine Fit 2.0 allows better versatility in the overall fit and sizing of the bag, reaching a range of users without sacrificing performance and functionality. This shape also allows users to sleep in varied positions for ultimate comfort and an overall great night’s sleep.
The design also features a specialised EXL® system, for optimum thermal efficiency, which gently cinches in the sleeping bag using lightly elasticated seams. The system helps minimise dead air space to provide extra warmth, pulling the fabric away from the down, giving it more room to fully loft.
Slanted box-wall baffles throughout the design help maximise the loft and equal spread of the down, increasing warmth and enabling you to feel as snug as a bug in a rug.
The sleeping bag uses ground level side seams, which allow the front layer of the sleeping bag to cocoon around the body for increased warmth and cosiness.
Keeping the head warm when catching z's is super important! Our heads are one of our most significant sources of body heat, so being exposed to colder temperatures will leave you feeling the chill. A seven baffle set up with anatomical shaping in the hood keeps the down where you need it most. Even after heavy use, this low bulk hood will keep your head toasty all night long whilst feeling light and breathable.
Down at the toes, there's a four baffle anatomically shaped, offset foot box. The shaping of the foot box gives wriggly sleepers a little extra space, helping alleviate feelings of restriction within the sleeping bag and offering a much more natural sleeping position.
The main entrance into the bag uses a 140cm zip, with an integrated neck collar and full length baffle, which helps prevent a big cold spot at the fastening - a common problem found with lesser quality sleeping bags.
A waterproof roll-top stuffsack is provided for on-the-go carry, alongside a storage cube for home storage. The best way to store a sleeping bag, especially when on the move, is to literally stuff it into your stuffsack. Randomly stuffing the sleeping bag helps prevent cold spots from creases that form when sleeping bags are folded up in storage. At home, stuff it into the storage cube all the same. The storage cube is less compact than the stuffsack to enable the down to stay lofted when stored for a longer period - it enhances the warmth and contributes to maximum performance when it comes to using it again.
