What is the Nova IV?
The Nova IV is a lightweight, compressible sleeping bag with synthetic insulation, ideal for all-season trekking and mountain adventures. It's incredibly comfortable and spacious and offers excellent all-round protection and warmth due to its innovative construction.
What is it made of?
Mountain Equipment has used a combination of synthetic Polarloft® insulation and a Helium™ 20D outer shell to construct the Nova IV, for a smart, practical, lightweight finish that feels super warm and cosy.
Insulation: Polarloft® - This is a high quality, high performance synthetic insulation developed to thrive in places where down cannot. Synthetic insulation works well in damp conditions, as it remains lofted and warm when wet, unlike down. Polarloft® provides excellent weather resistance whilst offering superior warmth and comfort to help you feel your best throughout your adventure.
Outer: Helium™ 20D - Helium™ fabrics are lightweight, ultra-compressible, high performance materials, perfect for products with weight and bulk at the top of their concerns. Their densely woven structure, using fine denier yarns, offers a layer of downproof yet breathable protection to create an incredibly versatile, functional fabric.
What are its features?
Keystone shingle construction on the top layer of the sleeping bag offers a high level of warmth, as the baffles run head to toe down the design. Internally, there are overlapping layers of insulation that will help prevent cold spots from developing, without feeling too weighty over the top. Underneath, at the base of the sleeping bag, is an offset layer construction, helping to minimise bulk without feeling thin and uncomfortable. The offset layer construction still provides excellent protection from the cold ground to maximise warmth and optimise performance.
The Nova IV uses a Mountain fit - a general mummy shape that combines thermal efficiency and comfort, fitting snug without feeling restrictive. Achieving a closer fit helps prevent heat that the body has already generated from escaping - this is much healthier for the user in colder climates, as it saves energy for other tasks or recovery.
The anatomically shaped hood and foot-box provide extra coverage in vital areas. Keeping the head insulated will help the body regulate the temperature and prevent conductive heat loss. This is super important as our heads are one of our largest sources of warmth!
An integrated collar helps prevent heat from escaping the inside of the bag, so you can feel wrapped up and toasty all night long. There is also a Lode-Lock closure at the top of the sleeping bag, developed by Mountain Equipment for super easy use with cold fingers. The Lode-Lock closure is a magnetic closure that helps to keep the top of the bag fastened, preventing the zip from spreading open as you move around.
In terms of the zip, it is a lengthy 140cm long and has a full-length zip baffle running alongside to prevent a big cold gap at the entry - a clever solution to a common problem found in lesser quality sleeping bags.
The Nova IV is supplied with a lightweight compression sack for storage, which packs down pretty small for easy carry on the go.
