What is the Mythic 600 Sleeping Bag?
Rab's Mythic 600 sleeping bag has had an eco-conscious update and now boasts a recycled Atmos™ lining and face fabric.
Filled with premium 900FP R.D.S Certified European Goose Down, the Mythic 600 offers an exceptional warmth-to-weight ratio for a good night's kip during mountaineering adventures and multi-day climbing in cold environments.
What is it made from?
Insulation: The Mythic 600 uses 600g of 900 fill power, R.D.S Certified, European Goose Down for maximum loft (fluffiness) and insulation.
European Goose Down is some of the highest quality down on the current market, making this sleeping bag super high grade and efficient for keeping the heat in.
The down is treated with a Nikwax fluorocarbon-free Hydrophobic finish, which adds light water resistance to the down itself.
Can't quite catch the lingo? Here's a quick breakdown.
Fill power - Fill power measures the warmth and efficiency of the down, alongside its ability to loft (fluff up). A rating of 900 fill power means that 1oz of this down fills 900 cubic inches of space when fully lofted.
R.D.S - The Responsible Down Standard ensures that the down is sourced from happy birds who haven't been plucked and have been well cared for.
Hydrophobic - Hydrophobic down dries out and lofts more quickly than untreated down, resisting moisture from sweat and condensation that may build up when you're catching z's in the bag. Fluorocarbon-free Hydrophobic finishes don't use harmful chemicals that cause damage to the environment, an excellent feature for more eco-conscious adventurers.
Outer fabric: The outer shell of this sleeping bag is made from 10D Recycled Atmos™. It's made from super-fine, tightly woven yarns, making it windproof, fast-drying and highly water-resistant to protect you from the weather on mountain adventures.
This fabric is treated with a fluorocarbon-free, durable water repellent (DWR) for extra weather resistance in slightly harsher conditions. Fluorocarbon-free finishes don't use harmful chemicals that cause damage to the environment, which is another bonus feature for those seeking a more sustainable sleeping bag. The lightweight nature of this fabric takes away a lot of bulk to help relieve the burden of carrying heavy kit when trekking, backpacking, and mountaineering.
Lining: 10D recycled Atmos™ is also used on the bag's lining, which is lightweight, flexible and comfortable next to the skin. Its fluorocarbon-free DWR provides light water repellence - super handy for accidental drink spills or getting caught out in sudden showers when setting your kit up.
What are its features?
Starting with the overall shape of the bag, the Mythic 600 is designed in a tapered mummy shape to provide efficient coverage to the whole body.
At the top of the bag, you will find a close-fitting, adjustable neck baffle, helping to decrease heat loss that often occurs around the head and neck area of the sack. Tightening the neck baffle will trap the heat generated by the body from the neck down. Therefore, your body doesn't expend excess energy constantly generating more warmth, helping you rest and recover efficiently.
A trapezoidal boxwall construction directs more insulation towards the body's surface by forcing the down to sit in a trapezoid shape within each baffle. This construction method optimises the loft and warmth of the bag.
The chevron shaped baffle design helps reduce migration of the down, whilst optimising core warmth, by encouraging the down to sit in the central points of the sleeping bag.
A 3/4 length main zip with an anti-snag internal zip guard enables easy access, lined with a synthetic-filled baffle to help trap in warmth and prevent cold spots, which can often be a problem if investing in lesser quality sleeping bags.
There is an internal stash pocket with a zip fastening, handy for your phone, alarm clock or a torch without getting them lost in the deep realms of the bag.
The angled foot box allows a natural, relaxed sleeping posture by providing extra wiggle room around the feet, ideal for fidgety sleepers!
A roll-top waterproof stuffsack is also provided to compact the bag so you can carry it on the move with less bulk. Stuffsacks are meant to be stuffed! So do your best to cram your sleeping bag inside instead of folding the bag away. Stuffing randomly helps to prevent folds and creases in the down, which will prevent cold spots and gaps from developing.
