What is the Mythic Ultra 180?
This is a super lightweight, long length sleeping bag filled with R.D.S Certified, European Goose Down, designed for those who count every gram of kit when adventuring through the hills. The Mythic Ultra is one of the lightest, most packable quality sleeping bags available, thanks to its 900FP Down and weightless Ripstop Nylon fabric.
What is it made of?
Insulation: The Mythic Ultra 180 uses 900 fill power, R.D.S Certified, European Goose Down for maximum loft (fluffiness) and insulation.
European Goose Down is some of the highest quality down on the current market, making this sleeping bag super high grade and efficient for keeping the heat in.
The down in this bag is treated with a Nikwax fluorocarbon free Hydrophobic finish, which adds light water resistance to the down itself.
Can't quite catch the lingo? Here's a quick break down.
Fill power - Fill power measures the warmth and efficiency of the down, alongside its ability to loft/fluff up. A rating of 900 fill power means that 1oz of this down fills 900 cubic inches of space when fully lofted.
R.D.S - The Responsible Down Standard ensures that the down is sourced from happy birds who haven't been plucked and have been well cared for.
Hydrophobic - Hydrophobic down dries out and lofts quicker, resisting moisture from sweat and condensation that may build up when you're catching z's in the bag. Fluorocarbon free Hydrophobic finishes don't use harmful chemicals that cause damage to the environment - an excellent feature for more eco-conscious adventurers.
Outer fabric: A super lightweight 7D Ripstop Nylon is used to construct the outer shell of this sleeping bag. Using Ripstop fabrics brings a great advantage outdoors as the material is designed to resist tearing and snagging, useful if you're venturing out into rougher terrain. The lightweight properties of this fabric take away the bulk of the load, meaning it's great for packing into a rucksack without adding excessive weight.
Lining: The sleeping bag's lining uses a similar 7D Ripstop Nylon fabric with added TILT technology to improve warmth inside the bag.
TILT (Thermo Ionic Lining Technology) helps to reduce radiative heat loss by reflecting heat back towards the body. This technology helps to increase warmth in cold weather, balancing out your very own microclimate to a comfortable temperature and improving the warmth to weight ratio of the bag.
What are its features?
This sleeping bag is assembled using a trapezoidal chamber design which helps direct the down filling to the body's surface, forcing the down to sit in a trapezoid shape inside each baffle. Each baffle is also constructed to save weight and prevent the down from migrating around the chambers. These construction methods help to optimise the overall loft and warmth of the sleeping bag.
A proportionally designed differential cut means that the inner lining and outer fabric are sized differently according to the fill power of the product.
An ergonomic internal collar and hood allow a closer fit around the head and neck for improved insulation of vital areas. Achieving a closer fit to areas more exposed to the cold helps prevent heat that the body has already generated from escaping. Preserving heat is much healthier for the user in colder climates, as it saves energy for other tasks or recovery.
The sleeping bag is fastened with a 1/8 length zip on the left side, with a noctilucent (glow in the dark) puller and anti snag bonded zip guard. Glow in the dark pullers are fantastic for use after hours, as they help you to easily locate your zip fastening - especially handy when you get a sudden urge to nip to the loo in the middle of the night!
The sleeping bag's mummy silhouette allows the sack to spaciously surround the figure without gaping, helping to lock the heat in all night long. The angled foot box allows a natural, relaxed sleeping posture providing extra wiggle room around the feet, ideal for fidgety sleepers!
Two storage sacks are included with the Mythic Ultra 180. The zipped cotton sack is designed to store your sleeping bag at home and give it more breathing room. Storing the bag in a more spacious pack allows the down filling to remain lofted, helping to increase its overall performance and lifespan.
A small waterproof stuffsack is also provided to compact the bag and carry it on the move with less bulk. Stuffsacks are literally meant to be stuffed! So do your best to cram your sleeping bag inside instead of folding the bag away. Stuffing randomly helps to prevent folds and creases in the down, which will prevent cold spots and gaps from developing.
