What is the High Side 1?
The High Side 1 is a super lightweight, packable, reliable tent featuring plenty of interior space without the weight penalty. It's designed with solo backpackers in mind and can be pitched in just a matter of minutes.
What is it made of?
The flysheet is made from a 20D ripstop nylon with a 1200mm hydrostatic head, while the floor uses a slightly tougher but very similar 30D ripstop nylon. These fabrics are fully waterproof, packable and don't contain any harmful PFC's. The inner is made using a lighter 15D nylon with areas of No-See-Um mesh to offer increased ventilation.
How does it pitch?
There are two poles — one short, one long. Insert these poles through the corresponding sleeves on the inner tent, then pop the flysheet over the top and peg your guylines. Easy.
What are its features?
Although not a feature, the weight and pack size of this tent is worth an honourable mention. It weighs just 1.1kg when fully packed away and 880g without the stuffsack and any other accessories. When stuffed into the included stuffsack, it measures 34cm (length) x 13cm (width); so pretty small.
Right, onto actual features. Unzip the tent and you'll find a spacious vestibule that's large enough for your rucksack and some muddy footwear. When the door is fully unzipped, it can be held up with a walking pole to create an awning for extra coverage in warm, rainy conditions. If the conditions allow, the flysheet of the tent can be whipped off entirely to reveal just the inner; this acts as a bit of a bug shelter in tropical climates. The inner tent is largely made from mesh, so you've got plenty of ventilation even with the flysheet on. When you come to pack the tent away, you'll appreciate the duffel-style stuffsack which is far easier than those tube-shaped ones that always seem far too small.
