What are the Orion Pants?
They're durable, waterproof trousers designed to protect you in rugged environments. Thanks to their nanoporous membrane, the Orion Pants provide exceptional breathability for both static and dynamic activities, whether climbing, mountaineering, belaying, or hiking across rugged landscapes.
What are they made of?
The Orion Pants are constructed using three-layer Drilite® XT fabric, which features a nanoporous membrane. It comprises 100% recycled polyamide for a lesser environmental impact without compromise, ensuring it will endure a beating in harsh conditions.
A nanoporous membrane also provides the added benefit of enhanced breathability. Nanoporous membranes breathe passively, unlike microporous (regular) membranes, which need pressure to breathe. Passive breathability means the trousers will continue breathing and regulating temperature even when you're not moving or working up a sweat, perfect for high-output activities and times where you'll be wearing your shell for both static and active pursuits.
PFAS means per- or poly-fluorinated alkyl; these are a group of industrial chemicals that cause detrimental harm to the environment. These chemicals aren't able to break down, so once they reach nature via factory water waste, they stay in the ecosystem and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFAS and PFC's are suspected carcinogens and have been known to affect mammal reproduction and hormone production. Therefore, many leading brands in the outdoor industry are now prioritising cutting out the use of these chemicals entirely to contribute to a more responsible manufacturing process.
What are their features?
An Alpine Fit with articulated knees sits closer to the body without being restrictive and provides ample mobility at the joints for stepping high.
A semi-elasticated waistband with a dual press stud closure feels comfortable and flexible and is easily accessible when nature calls. These trousers also have a drop-seat function, which comes in handy for multi-day missions and pursuits in remote locations.
Fully adjustable braces help to keep the trousers in place.
A zipped thigh pocket with a storm flap provides weather-protective storage for essentials like a GPS device, mobile phone, or energy gels.
You also get full-length, two-way YKK® side zips for ventilation if you're working hard. These zips also make it easier to layer the trousers over chunky mountaineering boots and different types of footwear.
Zip-out internal snow gaiters with lace hooks and tabs for an under-boot strap allow you to attach footwear to stop the trousers from rising up, ensuring complete protection in wet or snowy conditions.
Finally, an adjustable hem with tough Cordura® kick strips allow you to cinch in the bottom of these trousers around your footwear to seal the weather out, also helping to keep the heat in and balance the body's temperature more efficiently.
