Featuring three-layer Gore-Tex® for maximum waterproof protection. The Gore-Tex® ePE membrane is a key milestone in the leading brand's responsible performance journey. If you were wondering, ePE stands for Expanded Polyethylene, which is a material that is lightweight, thin, durable and PFC-free.
What is the Crater Light HS Hooded Jacket?
The Crater Light HS Hooded Jacket is the perfect waterproof jacket for environmentally-conscious hikers and outdoor adventurers. It's responsible design helps to reduce carbon footprint without compromise, delivering complete waterproof protection for technical trail days, hill walks, and multi-day excursions.
What is it made of?
The face fabric uses a three-layer Gore-Tex® fabric with a PFC-free ePE membrane and PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent). It primarily comprises recycled polyester, which is lightweight and breathable yet durable enough to be worn regularly. The recycled polyester liner is solution-dyed to help reduce environmental impact during production, and the jacket is bluesign® approved to add to its eco-credentials.
Can't quite catch the lingo? Here's a quick breakdown...
Solution-dyed - Solution-dying is when colour is added to the raw material (recycled polyester pellets) before being melted and extruded into the yarns that go on to be knitted or woven into the fabric. By adding the dye at this earlier stage, less water, chemicals, and energy are used, therefore creating less (potentially harmful) wastewater and less carbon emissions. This process also improves the fabric's colour durability when worn or washed, meaning it won't fade over time.
Gore-Tex® ePE and PFC-free - The Gore® ePE membrane is a key milestone in the leading brand's responsible performance journey. If you were wondering, ePE stands for Expanded Polyethylene, which is a material that is lightweight, thin, durable and PFC-free.
If you're familiar with Trekitt descriptions, you may have seen that 'PFC-free' phrase floating around before. PFCs are per or poly-fluorinated chemicals, aka 'forever chemicals', that stay permanently in the environment and cause lasting damage to our ecosystems. Many companies are working towards a completely PFC-free future, so this is quite a breakthrough for the Gore-Tex® brand! In addition, this membrane has a reduced carbon footprint, as it uses laminates with a lower-mass membrane and select textiles, making it an ideal choice for more environmentally conscious adventurers.
The membrane itself provides complete waterproof and windproof protection, with ample breathability to prevent sweat and condensation from building up inside, helping regulate body temperature. Overall, it has been rigorously tested to ensure a long-lasting product life, which adds to those eco-friendly credentials, as you won't need to buy a replacement jacket for a long time, saving energy, resources and waste.
bluesign® approval - A bluesign® certification means this product is manufactured in a way that is safe for the environment, workers and consumers. bluesign® certifications ensure that the materials used avoid harmful substances, use reduced air and water emissions, increase resource productivity, and the production line is more transparent and trustworthy.
