What are the Latok GTX Gaiters?
They're robust, slim-fitting waterproof gaiters designed to provide uncompromising waterproof protection for various technical ascents. Made with the latest Gore-Tex Pro ePE, they boast Spectra® ripstop reinforcements for next-level durability for tackling rugged mountainsides and adventures where crampons are essential.
What are they made from?
The Latok GTX Gaiters are built from a combination of robust 80-denier three-layer Gore-Tex Pro ePE, Spectra® ripstop reinforcements and stretchy Proflex™ for the ideal balance of durability, comfort and weather protection.
The 80-denier outer fabric is reassuringly robust, yet it's not too heavy or uncomfortable to hold you back. It's thick enough to deal with demanding climbs, scrambles and hikes in rocky terrain where it's likely to take a beating.
Gore-Tex Pro ePE is the most rugged, durable and breathable membrane, designed to withstand abrasion in the toughest terrain. It offers maximum waterproof and windproof protection whilst still being extremely breathable. Thanks to its versatility, it's perfect for mountain use and will keep you comfortable in changeable environments. It has an excellent Hydrostatic Head rating of 28,000mm to reliably shield you from wet weather in challenging mountain environments.
This latest Gore-Tex® ePE technology is made using recycled fabrics and without the use of PFAS/PFC chemicals for a significantly reduced environmental impact. If you were wondering, PFAS/PFCs are per or poly-fluorinated chemicals, aka 'forever chemicals' that stay permanently in the environment and cause lasting damage to our ecosystems. This is why many companies are working towards a completely PFC-free future, and this latest membrane from Gore-Tex® is a big step forward for the brand.
Rab have used stretchy Proflex™ panels across the rear of the gaiters to create a snug and comfortable fit around various boots styles. Proflex™ is a stretch woven nylon waterproof material that is soft, breathable and highly comfortable, making it ideal for use in areas of high movement.
The Spectra® ripstop reinforcements use a super tough grid of polyethylene fibres woven into a solid yet lightweight Cordura fabric. The fibres have a high molecular weight, making them 15 times stronger than steel and bullet-resistant materials! It's complete with a high UV resistance to help prevent any sun damage or deterioration when used regularly on exposed routes. This technology brings a whole new level to technical fabrics, creating something incredibly abrasion, UV and water resistant while extremely lightweight.
The gaiters are finished with a PFC-Free DWR (durable water repellent) coating to encourage rain, snow and mud to bead off the gaiters instead of soaking in, helping to keep the waterproof membrane clean, protected and in tip-top shape.
What are their features?
As previously mentioned, the gaiters are built from a combination of robust Gore-Tex Pro ePE and stretchy Proflex™, with Spectra® ripstop reinforcements to the lower leg for maximum waterproof protection and durability in rugged mountain environments. In this construction, Rab cleverly minimised the number of seams used to reduce wear points and the amount of potential tape needed to waterproof these seams. This helps aid the gaiter's durability over time and breathability levels.
Designed to fit over various footwear, including chunky walking boots and mountaineering boots, the gaiters are secured with a TPU strap underfoot and a zipless hook and loop from closure for easy use.
