What is the Atom LT?
The Atom LT hoody is one of the best insulated jackets available. This fantastic jacket can replace layers of bulky fleece with one lightweight, warm, packable layer. Use it for virtually any outdoor activity, from winter climbing to multi-day treks and everything in between.
What is the Atom LT made of?
Insulation: At the core of Atom you will find 60g/m² of Coreloft Compact insulation, a synthetic insulation that is similar to Primaloft, however, it's been developed by Arc'teryx to be more durable and resistant to compression (hence the 'compact' bit of the name). Not only is it more durable, but the synthetic fibres have also been siliconised to further increase breathability by reducing the fibre's ability to hold onto moisture.
Fabrics: Arc'teryx use their own Tyono 20 fabric throughout the outer of the Atom. The tight weave of the Tyono face fabric allows for very little air permeation which plays an important role — this minuscule amount of air will go un-noticed during activity but will slowly replenish the warm air that's already trapped inside the insulation and will keep you at a comfortable temperature even whilst moving. To improve breathability even further, super-stretchy, air-permeable polyester panels have been added to the side of the jacket. Not only does this improve breathability, but increases comfort and stretchiness during high-output activities. Both of these fabrics feature a durable water repellent coating to allow light rain and snow to bead off the surface. Please note, this does not make the Atom waterproof, we still recommend taking a hardshell in heavy rain. The internal fabric has also been replaced with a more breathable, comfortable and soft variant, taken straight from Arc'teryx's Proton.
What are the features?
The Atom LT features two hand pockets and an internal security pocket, all of which are zipped. The hood is fully adjustable and sits snug to your head, even in strong winds. A stiffened peak adds further protection from light rain and makes the hood feel more substantial. Finally, to seal out the cold, the Atom LT features a hem drawcord and low-profile Jersey knit cuffs which fit comfortably under bulky gloves or additional layers.
How does the Atom LT fit?
The Atom LT fits into Arcteryx's 'trim' fit block, which means it is designed to sit snug to your body with room for a light layer or two underneath but doesn't have lots of excess material that will flap around in the wind. If you're familiar with the Atom prior to 2020, this will feel slimmer and slightly shorter. For reference, the centre back length is 67cm.
Where does the Atom LT fit in the layering system?
The Atom LT is an insulating jacket that works well as a stand-alone jacket on still, chilly days, but can also be layered up under a shell in colder, damp conditions.
