The Jottnar Vanir LT (lower torso) pants are brand new for winter 2015 and are based on the award winning Jottnar Vanir Salopettes. The Vanir LT Pants are designed primarily for extreme winter mountain sports and are packed with features to satisfy the most demanding users such as international mountain guides, mountain rescue teams and ski mountaineers.
Jottnar use Polartec NeoShell for all their hardshell products as it delivers true breathability, stretch and durability in a lightweight versatile and fully waterproof fabric. Jottnar have designed the Vanir LT Pant around the superb performance characteristics of NeoShell and that becomes apparent as soon as you put them on; they are just incredible to wear. The stretch fabric and anatomic cut make them so easy to move in and they feel more like a pair of softshell pants than traditional hard shell mountain pants. They would work superbly over a pair of high wicking fleece leggings such as the Mountain Equipment Eclipse Pant or the Rab Flux Pants for all day winter comfort.
Starting from the top you get a secure, yet comfortable, part elasticated waist band with an internal belt and double press stud closure, a YKK Aquaguard two way front zip with glove friendly pullers making relieving yourself quick and easy. The waist is high and has seamless back protection to eliminate gaps when worn under a jacket and the diamond crotch design allows full movement for those awkward bridging manoeuvres. The fully removable braces have beautifully finished electroplated metal fixings to allow quick removal from either front or back or both, this means you can drop your kegs quickly without removing layers.
Twin hip pockets, again with YKK Aquaguard zips provide ample storage or sanctuary for cold hands on an exposed belay. The very same Aquaguard zips are used for the 3/4 length leg zips; Jottnar have purposefully avoided full length zips as they can cause pressure points when wearing a harness and/or rucksack hip belt. These quality YKK zips are hard wearing, remain flexible and free running even in extreme cold.
Reinforced knees and seat help to reduce abrasion to these often abused areas and the instep features Kevlar protection against crampons and ski edges. As you would expect on a pant of this quality there is a removable internal gaiter to reduce water and snow ingress, it features elasticated grippers and boot lace hooks to keep it in place. However Jottnar have gone one step further by providing you with two sets of internal gaiters, one sized for mountaineering boots and one sized for ski boots; so you can customise the Vanir LT pants to your activity.
These sublime mountain pants really are a work of art and a joy to wear, they have been designed for the most demanding users and use the most technologically advanced fabrics available; admittedly they are not cheap, but they are the best.
