The Vaude Mark series of tents have been around for years and this Lightweight 3 person version uses the same innovative design features that make them incredibly easy to pitch, very stable in harsh conditions and provide versatile sleeping and storage options. The hybrid design combines the advantages of both tunnel and ridge tents to give the roomy interior and ample headroom from tunnel tents and the stability and weather beating, snow loading attributes of ridge tents.
The ingenious Mark wrap-around system cleverly attaches the flysheet to the poles using a tensioned bungee cord, this allows the tent to flex independently of the poles giving the whole structure more weather resistance. If the wind gets very strong you can even tension the system from within the tent for extra security. The lightweight T6 7001 alloy poles all come joined together so that you can never lose a section and this makes pitching incredibly easy.
Twin entrances provide versatile sleeping and storage options and because the hybrid construction does not rely on the tension of the flysheet to create the vestibules the door flap position can be can be altered to suit the conditions or removed completely in good weather. Each external entrance has a four way zip so that you can tailor the entrance for ventilation, complete closure and everything in-between.
Vaude have used high quality and reliable fabrics for the Mark L 3, the flysheet uses a tough 30D rip-stop polyester with a silicone outer coating and a PU inner coating to provide strength, UV resistance and total waterproofing thanks to the fully taped seams. The UV resistance is especially important in mountain environments where the high levels of UV can seriously damage fabrics, making them brittle and fragile after prolonged exposure. The coating also helps rainwater to bead up and roll off the fabric more easily so when you come to pack up simply shake the flysheet dry to keep the packed weight to a minimum. The lightweight flysheet has a hydrostatic head of 3000mm (the standard for waterproof is 1500mm) and the tough 70D coated nylon groundsheet provides further protection with a Hydrostatic head of 7000mm. The inner tent uses a lightweight and breathable 30D rip-stop polyester with mesh panels in the doors to aid ventilation. Twin vents at the doors, each with a rain cowl and four way zips, also help to keep fresh air flowing through the tent to minimise condensation.
The Vaude Mark L 3 is perfect for group backpacking, weighing in at 3.2kg means that you each of you is only carrying just over a kilo. Alternatively it makes a brilliant base camp tent for couples or small families and can be used for cycle touring thanks to the versatile storage options.
