What is the Caritool EVO?
Good question! It's an ice screw holder built to adapt to any harness type for organising and accessing gear when ice climbing and mountaineering. The Caritool EVO helps to optimise the versatility of a harness by increasing its capacity to hold equipment specific to particular activities.
What is it made of?
Petzl has combined stainless steel, glass fibre-reinforced plastic and high-modulus polyethene to put the Caritool EVO together. This combination makes it highly durable and resistant to wear and tear when dealing with heavier racks and metal gear.
What are its features?
This handy little tool looks similar to a carabiner, but please be aware that this is NOT a piece of protective equipment! It holds only the weight of equipment, with a maximum of 5kg, and should not be used for anything else.
Its primary use is gear handling and organisation, being more convenient than traditional harness loops when dealing with a rack, ice axes, screws or a hammer with one hand. This tool can carry up to six ice screws down in the basket and has the ability to move screws up to the notched shelf to make getting to the screws in the middle easier.
You can also tether certain tools using the smaller hole on the upper shelf to maximise usage.
The Caritool EVO is super easy to position on the harness waistbelt and, as mentioned, is compatible with any type of climbing harness or even the waistbelt of a backpack - handy, right?
