What are the Wildfire Edge GTX's?
They're lightweight and versatile nimble tech approach shoes that can easily switch from hiking mode to climbing mode. Designed together with and tested extensively by professional climbers and mountain guides in the Dolomites, the Salewa Wildfire Edge GTX's offer exceptional comfort, protection and stability for challenging mountain adventures.
What are they made from?
Upper: The shoe's upper is made from highly abrasion-resistant suede leather and microfibre. The upper is reinforced with a 3F system and network of Kevlar cables that wrap around the foot, providing increased flexibility and fit while enhancing heel support and torsional stability. Surrounding the lower part of the upper is a protective rubber rand that gives structure and protection around the sides and toes for rocky environments.
Lining: The Wildfire Edge GTX is lined with a waterproof and breathable GORE-TEX® Extended Comfort membrane. It provides maximum comfort in various climates, keeping your feet dry in wet weather while still allowing moisture vapour to escape when you're working hard.
Midsole: The midsole is made from EVA rubber that's solid yet squishy enough to absorb shock on solid ground. EVA can regain its shape well and provides fantastic cushioning under the foot to help improve comfort on longer trails.
Outer: For traction, the Wildfire Edge GTX uses a Pomoca Speed Mountain outsole made of sticky rubber that delivers extra grip and friction on smooth rock, slabs and scree. The sole uses S-Path technology which encourages a more natural roll-off. It has an auto-composed pattern that divides into different sections that work with the movement and placement of the foot for maximum grip and stability on both dry and wet surfaces.
What are their features?
One of the big highlights of these shoes is their Switchfit technology which allows you to switch easily between hiking and climbing modes, giving you better edging and smearing as well as overall security on technical terrain.
To further enhance climbing precision, the Wildfire Edge GTX's insole incorporates an additional stiff Edging Plate right under the forefoot for extra directional stiffness, while the rest of the insole remains flexible to ensure good comfort and a natural rolling motion.
For enhanced torsional stability, the Exa outer shell protects and wraps the foot preventing internal foot slipping whilst traversing technical terrain. The 3F System wraps the foot to guarantee a good fit and ensures firm ankle support while allowing flexibility.
The climbing lacing system runs all the way down to the toe for improved fit, with adaptive eyelets designed to help fine-tune the shape of the shoe and keep the lacing in place when you're on the move.
Finally, the Pomoca Speed Mountain super grippy outsole features a special lug profile that offers excellent grip on muddy, soft ground and various rocky terrain in both wet and dry conditions.
