What is the Fitzroy Jacket?
The Fitzroy Jacket is a synthetically filled insulated jacket. Designed to be thrown over all your layers, it is ideally suited to belaying when out in the elements, or simply as a warm layer when out walking in harsh winter conditions. Combining the warmth of Primaloft Gold hi-loft ultra insulation with the water resistance and windproofing of a GORE-TEX INFINIUM 30 outer shell, the Fitzroy will cope with pretty much anything mother nature can throw at you when out on a winter climb/belay. Offering maximum warmth and protection during all winter conditions with impressively small pack size.
What is the Fitzroy Jacket made from?
The GORE-TEX INFINIUM outer fabric combines a multilayer membrane technology with high-performance fabrics to produce a fabric that is windproof, highly breathable and extremely resistant to rain and snow. The Infinium is a tough and durable fabric providing the Fitzroy with optimum durability, ready to take on the elements.
The insulation comes in the form of Primaloft Gold Hi - loft synthetic insulation which features Cross Core aerogel technology. Primaloft Gold is one of the finest synthetic insulations available, offering incredible warmth for its weight as well as good pack size. It also performs consistently in wet conditions, making it a perfect belay layer. The Fitzroy has 120g in the body and 80g in the arms/hood and 60g overlay in the shoulders providing high levels of warmth throughout. M.E have managed to enhance warmth whilst being able to decrease the weight of the jacket with the Cross Core Aerogel in which Primaloft found a unique way to integrate Aerogel material into specific fibres(Originally developed by NASA), this highly porous, low-density structure forms a temperature barrier which locks out cold and heat. This is the lightest solid material known to man and one of the most effective insulation materials on the market.
What are its features?
The Fitzroy Jacket is feature-packed, but manages to keep its styling minimal and considered, meaning there is less to get in the way when out in the mountains using it.
Starting from the top, the hood is both insulated and helmet-compatible, ideal for throwing on when belaying, it also adjusts small enough to provide warmth when not wearing a helmet. The sleeves are pre-shaped for full freedom of movement and articulation. A 2-way YKK centre front zip with an insulated rear baffle to eliminate cold spots is front and centre on the Fitzroy, meaning it is fully harness compatible. Two zipped, handwarmer pockets and an inner mesh water bottle pocket with a large zipped security pocket, plenty of space for spare gloves, hats, maps and all-important snacks.
How does the Fitzroy Jacket fit?
The Fitzroy Jacket has been designed as a belay jacket, designed to be thrown over the top of all your other layers to keep the worst of the weather out and crucial warmth in. Because of this, it is a larger cut than some other insulated jackets.
Where does it fit in the layering system?
The Fitzroy is your belay jacket. Throw it over everything else and keep yourself warm and dry.
