What is the Nordwand Pro HS Hooded Jacket?
The Nordwand Pro HS Jacket is a tough hardshell built to endure alpine tours and winter mountaineering trips. It's the perfect piece for winters in the beautiful Scottish Highlands, where you'll need something practical and reliable to get you through rugged terrain and changeable weather.
What is it made of?
The jacket comprises durable 80D nylon Gore-Tex® Pro with a stretch insert, built-in 'Most Rugged' technology, and a solution-dyed backer for more sustainable production, significantly reducing water consumption in the manufacturing process.
Nylon is incredibly durable, and at 80D, it can easily withstand a good beating from rugged terrain and jagged rocks.
Gore-Tex® Pro offers exceptional waterproof protection for optimum defence against the elements. It has a partial stretch insert to promote flexibility and freedom of movement for steep, technical ascents, and added 'Most Rugged' technology for optimum longevity. Gore-Tex® has specially developed their Most Rugged technology to increase a material's strength and scratch resistance while still offering reliable weather protection.
Each seam is reinforced with lightweight 8mm Gore-SEAM® tape inserts to prevent rain and snow from seeping through the stitching, offering reassurance without adding excessive bulk and weight.
What are its features?
The hood feels roomy and comfortable. It's helmet compatible, making it easy to add a climbing helmet underneath when you're on the ropes. A reinforced peak at the top offers extra protection against rain and a three-point adjustment system optimises the fit according to your activities, layering system, head or helmet shape, and size.
The hem is also adjustable. Both the hood and hem adjustments use one-hand cords with CHOAESIVE® stoppers for easy, precise adjustment, even when you're wearing gloves, have one hand full of equipment, or numb fingers!
A built-in microfleece chin protector helps prevent rubbing or chafing when the zip is fully fastened and the material rests against your face.
The front fastening uses a waterproof YKK® Vislon two-way zip which allows you to undo the jacket from the bottom for extra ventilation or to make a climbing harness more accessible.
On the topic of climbing harnesses, there are two harness-compatible front pockets with waterproof zippers for essentials like snacks, energy gels or a GPS device. An internal zippered chest pocket provides security for small valuables like keys, a mobile phone or emergency cash, and a pocket on the sleeve is handy for ski passes that you might need to grab quickly.
Two-way underarm pit zips provide an effective way to dump some heat without opening the front of the jacket - ideal for exposed routes where the weather and wind may be harsher. Similar to the other zips, these are water repellent for added protection.
Cuffs are glove compatible and adjustable. They use a high-quality Hypalon hook and loop system, which is easy to use and allows you to get an accurate fit every time.
Finally, there's a zip-off snow skirt for skiing and snowboarding to help prevent loose powdery snow from getting inside. It has anti-slip grip and a double button placket for individual adjustment.
