What is the Lhotse Jacket?
It's an award-winning waterproof jacket built to withstand rugged environments and adventures in challenging terrain, whether mountaineering, climbing, or hiking.
What is it made of?
The Lhotse is built with a unique, three-layer Gore-Tex® Pro 80D fabric, with an ePE membrane.
If you were wondering, ePE stands for expanded polyethene, which is light, thin yet durable, and PFC-free. If you're familiar with Trekitt descriptions, you may have seen that 'PFC-free' phrase floating around before. PFCs are per or poly-fluorinated chemicals, aka 'forever chemicals' that stay permanently in the environment and cause lasting damage to our ecosystems. Many companies are working towards a completely PFC-free future, so this is quite a breakthrough for the Gore-Tex® brand! In addition, this membrane has a reduced carbon footprint, as it uses laminates with a lower-mass membrane and select textiles, making it an ideal choice for more environmentally conscious adventurers.
The material itself provides complete waterproof and windproof protection, with ample breathability to prevent sweat and condensation from building up inside, helping regulate body temperature. An 80D material makes it incredibly robust to withstand bumps and scrapes in rugged environments, providing high performance and reliability. Overall, it has been rigorously tested to ensure a long-lasting product life, which adds to those environmental credentials, as you won't need to buy a new replacement for a long time, saving energy, resources and waste.
The material is also finished with a PFAS-free DWR (durable water repellent). PFAS means per- or poly-fluorinated alkyl; these are a group of industrial chemicals that cause detrimental harm to the environment. These chemicals aren't able to break down, so once they reach nature via factory water waste, they stay in the ecosystem and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFAS and PFC's are suspected carcinogens and have been known to affect mammal reproduction and hormone production. Therefore, many leading brands in the outdoor industry are now prioritising cutting out the use of these chemicals entirely to contribute to a more responsible manufacturing process.
What are the features?
A helmet-compatible hood comfortably fits a climbing helmet underneath, providing ample weather protection on the most exposed routes and rock faces. The hood has a 'mountain fit' and full adjustability thanks to the Cohaesive® adjusters.
A seamless face panel also enhances comfort when the front of the jacket is fully fastened, reducing the level of rubbing against the skin.
An Alpine fit sits closely to the body to maximise the breathability and performance of the technical materials. Despite this, articulated and pre-shaped sleeves improve mobility so you can comfortably reach for that next hold or use hiking poles without feeling restricted or the jacket rising excessively.
Two large pockets and one chest pocket provide storage for small essentials, whether it's a pair of gloves, snacks, or a GPS device. Each pocket is laser cut and laminated with YKK® Aquaguard® zips, which are completely waterproof.
An additional laminated, laser cut inner pocket also provides extra storage for smaller valuables such as a mobile phone, keys, or a wallet.
The front entry also uses a waterproof YKK® zip which has a two-way function, meaning you can unzip from the bottom to accommodate a climbing harness or for extra ventilation without having to remove the jacket entirely.
Two-way underarm pit zips create extra airflow when unfastened, regulating temperature for challenging missions and tough ascents. Each zip is laminated with a bonded entry for further weather resistance, ensuring no leakage when zipped up.
Lastly, adjustable, laminated cuffs and dual tether Cohaesive™ hem drawcords provide extra customisation while helping to seal the weather out further and balance temperature regulation more efficiently by maintaining the body's microclimate within the layering system.
