What is the Orbiton 20?
The Orbiton 20 is a fantastic alternative day pack for when kit is kept to a minimum but equipment for multiple disciplines is required.
This tough, durable and breathable pack has many adjustments so you can adapt it specifically to your activity. It’s perfect for biking, mountain walking, scrambling or even the commute to work.
What is it made from?
Montane has used their own Raptor Grid Nylon to construct the pack, combining the Raptor Flex four-way stretch to create a tough and strong abrasion-resistant fabric, with a slight stretch which gives you the extra three-litre capacity when you need it most.
The harness and back panel both use Air Mesh that will wick away sweat and moisture, keeping you cool and feeling fresh, even when you’re working hard both on steep inclines in the hills or running for the bus to work.
To line the pack, Montane has used Halo fabric which is exceptionally lightweight, smooth to touch and durable enough to withstand sharp scrapes against bits of kit inside.
What is the back system?
The hip fin is where it's at - the three point adjustment system covers a large surface area of your hips without the weight and bulk, increasing comfort and stability specific to your activity. It’s hard to convey just how comfortable these hip fins are in writing! These, and the entire back panel of the bag, are made from open Air Mesh that quickly wicks away moisture while gripping onto clothing, preventing excessive movement, and offering constant airflow throughout hotter outings.
What are the features?
The main feature of this pack is how versatile and transferable to activities it is, but having said that it still has other features to benefit from.
The chest strap is also worth an honourable mention; rather than your standard buckle, Montane use their Click’N’Go system. The strap fastens to the opposing shoulder strap, much like a magnet, but is much stronger and is easier to use when wearing bulky gloves. It also makes a really satisfying click when you undo it…
You are spoilt for options with the storage. To start, there is a main compartment to keep bulky bits of kit or extra clothing. There is a laptop sleeve fitting up to 15.6 inches and phone sleeve, with anti-scratch lining for extra protection. An internal zipped security pocket keeps your personal essentials safe, like a wallet, credit cards or headphones. Accessible wrap around wand pockets with security zips and a key clip offer a secure place to stash essential meds, extra cash, an emergency head torch and keys. A personal favourite is the hip belt pockets, they make great snack storage and allow you to eat on the go. They’re placed just right so that you can access them without having to take the whole pack off.
With the Orbiton you can store just about everything you could possibly want whilst out on a light weight raid, leaving your jacket and trouser pockets empty, comfortable and non-restrictive. When out scrambling there is nothing more uncomfortable than trying to lift your leg with your phone restricting the move! Finally, side compression straps fasten the load down inside, and LED loops with reflective details make sure you are still seen at nighttime.
