What is the AirContact Ultra 40+5?
It's a lightweight backpack that provides up to 45 litres of storage space for trekking, thru-hiking, camping and backpacking, whether you're heading to the mountains or the countryside.
What is it made of?
The main body of the AirContact Ultra is made with 175D PA Ripstop Ultra HD. In short, this material is incredibly durable and abrasion-resistant, meaning it will easily endure bumps and scrapes in harsh terrain and last you for years.
The impact of manufacturing is offset to reduce overall emissions as deuter works towards becoming a climate neutral company.
What back system does it use?
This backpack features an AirContact back system with Air Spacer mesh and a spring steel frame for extra support. The specialised back system is designed to reduce weight and amplify breathability around main contact points using mesh panelling. Optimising features and materials helps enhance functionality and support without excessive weight.
The clip-and-loop adjustable back length also enhances the fit of the pack to provide superior comfort over longer distances.
ActiveFit adjustable shoulder straps are incredibly breathable and pivot as you move to increase mobility when wearing the pack. Mobile, snug-fitting VariFlex ECL hip fins are also supportive and move with the body more efficiently, making this pack ideal for navigating uneven or technical terrain. These hip fins reduce the load off your lower back, helping to prevent pain and injury during your adventures. You can adjust them easily with the user-friendly pull-forward system.
What are its features?
An adjustable, detachable sternum strap and stabiliser straps help to keep the load in place as you move. An ergonomic, trapezoid-shaped lumbar pad allows effective load transfer onto the pelvis. Combined with the hip belt, this pack provides comfort on longer distances or multiple days.
For storage, in the main compartment, you also have a stretchy compartment to keep your belongings organised, like lunch or an extra layer. Two stretchy, extended, side mesh pockets are perfect for tucking away water bottles and bulky accessories. There's also an additional mesh pocket on the front of the packing, which works well for stowing a map or guidebook.
The height-adjustable, detachable lid allows you to customise your set-up and reduce weight; it also has a spindrift collar that provides an extra five litres of storage, should you need it. A large pocket in the lid also allows you to keep small belongings like snacks and energy gels accessible without having them get in your way.
Modular gear straps allow the attachment of a sleeping mat or tent to make carrying your home-away-from-home a little easier. These straps also double up as compression straps for days when the pack isn't fully loaded. Gear loops on the front also accommodate accessories such as a GPS device, map case, etc.
This backpack is hydration compatible, meaning you can hook a water bladder inside of up to three litres for on-the-go, hands-free sipping.
If you are in an emergency, there's also a built-in SOS label to help guide you.
