What is the Kyte 68?
The Kyte 68 is a 68-litre backpack with the ideal capacity and features for thru-hiking, multi-day trekking and shorter backpacking trips.
This backpack is a women's specific pack, with precise measurements that help reduce the risk of injury and enhance comfort. Plus, it has additional adjustments to increase versatility and performance on the hill.
What is it made of?
The primary fabrics are bluesign® approved, GRS-certified and recycled to reduce this pack's carbon footprint.
Primarily consisting of nylon, this revised Kyte model is much more durable than the previous version as it uses a thicker denier of nylon fabric.
The main body comprises 420D recycled nylon, while the base uses a heavier 500D recycled high-tenacity nylon. Both fabrics are treated with a PFAS-free DWR (durable water repellent) to enhance their weather resistance for all seasons. Generally, nylon is incredibly robust and can resist abrasion well, so even when used regularly in more demanding, rugged terrain, this backpack will serve you for years to come.
Which back system does it use?
The Kyte's backsystem focuses on comfort and stability and is made up of three main components.
Lightwire Suspension - A lightweight 3.5mm peripheral frame provides support and transfers the weight of the load to the hipbelt whilst maintaining flexibility for freedom of movement. An "Atilon" flexible frame sheet spreads the load across the entire backpanel to the peripheral frame.
AirScape Backpanel - The ever-reliable and comfortable AirScape back panel features vented and ridged foam sections overlaid with a breathable, lightweight mesh for maximum comfort and breathability.
Spacermesh Harness and Hipbelt - The shoulder harness and hip belt are made with a soft, edgeless breathable contact material with a large load-bearing surface area for maximum comfort and efficient weight transfer.
What are its features?
Designed specifically for the female form, it features a shorter torso length, a narrower and shorter shoulder harness with curves designed to accommodate women's necks, shoulders and chests, and a Fit-on-the-Fly® hip belt that wraps naturally around your curves for better load stabilisation and support. This particular style of hipbelt uses innovative adjustments designed to prioritise precision and fit the user accurately by extending and retracting to your preferred size.
The Kyte 68 features floating lid pocket access into the pack. You can access items buried deeper into your backpack using the full front panel U-Zip instead of unpacking every item in the middle of your mission. There's also a zipped lower sleeping bag compartment with a removable divider.
Storage options won't be a problem - you get twin hip belt pockets, a front stretch stash pocket, a top lid zipped pocket, and an internal mesh security pocket with a handy key clip. The side stretch-mesh pockets are worth a special mention as they will swallow one-litre water bottles or spare clothing easily and feature dual entry points alongside a forward-facing entrance at the base and a regular opening at the top. This means you can quickly load and unload water bottles while wearing the pack.
The Kyte 68 is fully hydration compatible with a clever external sleeve making replenishing your bladder quick and easy. If you are a fan of trekking poles, you'll love the Stow-On-The-Go storage system. This system allows you to quickly and easily stash the poles when they are not being used; simply collapse them and tuck them away without having to remove the pack or pester your walking buddies to strap them on for you.
Side compression straps pull the weight closer to your back, increasing comfort and carrying efficiency; internal compression straps also stop gear from rolling about in a half-full pack. The top straps have a "Reverse StraightJacket Function", offering additional attachment points if you need to carry extra gear on the outside of your pack; simply thread the side compression straps through the top loop of the daisy chain and then cross them over the top loop and across the front of the pack. Then you can buckle the straps together to create a compression system that will hold gear on the front of the bag.
The compression straps at the base of the pack can attach directly to the hip belt. When you do this and tighten them up, it really locks the load to your hips, providing fantastic stability.
You also get sleeping pad straps at the base of the Kyte 68 for attaching bulky sleep mats, or they can be removed entirely to reduce weight if not required. An adjustable sternum strap helps to equalise the load and features a built-in emergency whistle.
The Kyte is also ready for winter duties with twin ice axe loops, an integrated and removable rain cover and multiple lashing points across the front that work well to secure crampons.
