What is the Anti Freeze Vest?
The Anti Freeze Vest is a lightweight down gilet that provides efficient core warmth with minimal weight and bulk, making it ideal for highly-packable warmth when pit-stopping in the mountains or hiking in cold conditions.
Built with a wind-resistant Pertex® Quantum outer and filled with premium 800FP ExpeDRY™ goose down, it's the ideal layering piece for a boost of warmth, whether hiking in cold conditions, pit-stopping for lunch or relaxing between adventures.
Materials & Technology
PERTEX® Quantum Outer
The Anti Freeze Vest's outer shell is made from 20 Denier Pertex® Quantum recycled nylon ripstop with a PFC/PFAS-free DWR (durable water repellent).
Pertex® Quantum provides a lightweight, soft feel and helps improve the efficiency of the insulation by trapping still air. Though recycled, it doesn't skimp on performance; its tightly woven structure provides excellent levels of wind resistance and durability, providing both comfort and enhanced thermal performance. The fabric is coated in a PFC/PFAS-free DWR, which encourages light rain or snow to bead off the fabric without the use of harmful forever chemicals. However, please note this does not make the jacket waterproof.
EXPE DRY® 800 Fill Power Goose Down
For warmth, Montane has used 80g of ExpeDRY™ 90/10 goose down for an exceptional warmth-to-weight ratio. The Goose Down has a fill power of 800 + and is RDS and Track my Down™ certified, reassuring you that it has come from responsible, ethical sources.
It's well known that down and water don't mix well, so to combat this, the down is treated with a specialised process called ExpeDRY™. ExpeDRY™ by Allied Feather is an innovative, chemical-free, non-toxic alternative to hydrophobic-treated down. ExpeDRY™ uses chemical-free gases to permanently bond non-toxic gold particles to the individual down clusters, aiding the evaporation of water molecules, causing the down to dry faster and stay dry in high humidity and extreme conditions. This highly effective ability to move moisture helps the down retain maximum loft (fluffiness) and deal with various sources of moisture such as rain, snow and sweat, making it ideal for various environments and activities.
Lightweight Nylon Lining
Montane has lined the vest with lightweight 20D PEAQ recycled nylon with a PFC/PFAS-Free DWR (durable water repellent), which helps protect the inside from getting wet. PEAQ Down lining uses bluesign® approved recycled nylon plain weave, which is durable and abrasion-resistant yet lightweight. The lining feels soft next to the skin and is highly breathable, improving comfort and helping to regulate temperature during intense activity.
Features and Functionality
Refined Baffle Pattern
The Anti Freeze Vest features a stitch-through baffle construction to reduce bulk, allowing it to be easily compressed to take up less space in your pack. An enhanced baffle layout improve overall durability and help evenly distribute the down across the vest to reduce cold spots.
Offset Seams
Montane has constructed the vest with strategically placed offset seams throughout. This helps minimise vertical seams, optimise fabric usability, lower bulk, and reduce cold spots, with the bonus of creating a clean and timeless aesthetic.
Pack-Compatible Pocket Layout
For storage, you'll find two hand warmer pockets with YKK Natulon recycled zippers that offer space for a mobile phone, trail snacks and energy gels to keep you fueled during your adventure. The pockets have been thoughtfully placed to still be accessible when wearing a backpack or climbing harness.
Adjustable Hem
The vest is finished with an elasticated and adjustable bottom hem to refine the fit over various layers, allowing you to cinch it in to prevent cold air from entering and warm air from escaping.
Stuff Sack Included - Ideal for Repairs
An included cube stuff sack provides convenient, compact storage in your pack when not in use; however, we don't recommend storing the vest compressed for long periods of time, allowing the vest to loft between uses prolongs the life and effectiveness of the down loft. The stuff sack also doubles as a source of extra fabric should the jacket need to be repaired after years of frequent use to extend its lifespan.
