What are the Khroma Tour Windstopper Gloves?
They're an updated version of Rab's Khroma Tour gloves, now featuring the latest Gore-Tex Windstoppper® ePE membrane for a more responsible construction. These burly outdoor gloves are constructed with durable leather and offer fantastic breathability for such a technical glove. They are built explicitly with ski-touring in mind, ready to take on the challenges of powder, rock and rope.
What are they made from?
The gloves are made from a combination of Pittards Armortan® leather, two-layer Matrix™ nylon stretch and Gore-Tex Windstopper® technology, for a balance of warmth, durability and mountain practicality.
Pittards Armortan® leather is strategically placed at the highest wear points, the thumbs and palms. It aims to increase the abrasion resistance of the gloves by focusing on the microscopic fibril bundles within the leather that make up its fibre. The fibril bundles are encased with tiny 'armour plates', which are more resistant to wear and abrasion, increasing the overall durability of the material.
Matrix™ two-layer nylon stretch is also an extremely durable, lightweight stretch fabric. It helps to enhance the flexibility whilst feeling smooth and soft against the skin - easy to wear for long, intense sessions on the slopes. This stretchy fabric is treated with a DWR (durable water repellent) to add some extra protection against the elements, so light rain or snow will bead away. However, please note that the DWR does not provide complete waterproof protection.
The gloves feature a Windstoppper® ePE Products by Gore-Tex Labs lining to keep the harsh conditions out, providing warmth, water resistance and windproof protection to keep your hands toasty and well shielded. The lining still allows plenty of breathability, helping prevent moisture build-up inside the gloves, keeping you comfortable and managing temperature during intense activity.
Windstoppper® ePE Products by Gore-Tex Labs use's the brands latest ePE membrane, which is made without the use of PFAS/PFC chemicals and is finished with a fluorocarbon-free DWR (durable water repellent) to encourage the fabric to shed moisture instead of soaking in. However, please note this does not make the gloves waterproof.
What are their features?
These gloves are precurved, offering a much more natural shape and feel whilst maximising grip, so handling ropes and equipment feels nice and precise to help keep you safe. Outsewn seams provide a more dextrous fit, whilst the wrist straps are perfect for adapting the gloves to keep the powder out.
