What is the Drilite Cap?
It's a lightweight, waterproof cap with a versatile design. The Drilite Cap is ideal for rainy hill days and unpredictable mountain forecasts. However, its high level of functionality makes it sure to become a wardrobe staple for everyday wear.
What is it made of?
Mountain Equipment has made this cap using three-layer Drilite®, which is primarily recycled polyester and finished with a fluorocarbon-free DWR (durable water repellent).
Waterproof Drilite® fabric features a hydrophilic, monolithic polyurethane membrane that provides the ultimate wet weather protection whilst remaining lightweight and flexible. It combines years worth of knowledge and experience gathered by Mountain Equipment to provide optimum performance for mountain use, whether trail running or alpine hiking.
The fluorocarbon-free DWR encourages water to bead off the material instead of soaking in to enhance breathability. Fluorocarbons, also known as PFCs, are chemical compounds initially used in DWRs. These compounds can't break down, so once they reach nature via factory water waste, they stay in the environment and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. Fluorocarbons are suspected carcinogens and have been known to affect reproduction and hormone production in mammals. Therefore, many leading brands in the outdoor industry are prioritising cutting out the use of these chemicals entirely to contribute to a greener manufacturing process.
