What is the Alpine Start Hoodie?
It's an ultra-lightweight, softshell hoodie that delivers ample weather resistance and breathability with minimal weight and bulk.
What is it made of?
The primary material is bluesign® approved, woven nylon stretch, which offers maximum comfort and mobility without compromise.
bluesign® certifications ensure that the materials used avoid harmful substances, use reduced air and water emissions, increase resource productivity, and the production line is more transparent and trustworthy.
The material is finished with Schoeller Eco-Repel Bio DWR (durable water repellent), which uses a highly functional, permanently odourless, high-tech finish that mimics the natural protective mechanism of plants to enhance its weather-resistant properties. It encourages light rain or snow to bead off instead of soaking in and still feels soft and agile for technical activities. However, please note that this type of finish does not mean it's fully waterproof.
PFC-free means perfluorinated chemical-free. Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs), used to add water repellent to textiles, aren't able to break down, so once they reach nature via factory water waste, they stay in the ecosystem and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFC's are suspected carcinogens and have been known to affect mammal reproduction and hormone production. Therefore, many leading brands in the outdoor industry are now prioritising cutting out the use of these chemicals entirely to contribute to a more responsible manufacturing process.
What are its features?
An adjustable, elasticated, helmet-compatible hood protects the head and neck and can be worn comfortably with a climbing helmet.
The hoodie's cuffs and hem are also elasticated, meaning they will naturally cinch without restriction to help seal out the weather.
The chest pocket provides storage for small essentials. When you're not wearing it, you can stuff the hoodie into the chest pocket for an easy, compact packing solution. Inside the chest pocket is a carabiner loop, meaning you can hook it to a climbing harness or belt loop to keep it always accessible.
Lastly, a dropped hem provides more coverage underneath a climbing harness, so you don't have to worry about your layers riding up when reaching that next hold.
