What are the Nordes Pants?
They're extremely durable and protective softshell trousers that combine the latest softshell technology and Gore-Tex Windstopper ePE to keep you comfortable all day long through changing plans and conditions. Designed to be highly versatile and practical, they're optimised for use with a climbing harness and chunky boots, making them perfect for mountaineering, alpinism, climbing and hiking.
What are they made from?
The Nordes Pants are made from a combination of Montane's Granite Stretch softshell fabric and 70D Gore-Tex Windstopper™ ePE to perfectly balance durability, weather protection and breathability. The result is robust, stretchy and versatile softshell trousers that'll effortlessly move with you during your high-octane adventures.
Montane's Granite Stretch softshell fabric is used for the majority of the trousers to provide exceptional durability, breathability and a fantastic four-way stretch. Granite Stretch comprises recycled nylon and elastane and is constructed with a robust double weave with a soft peached backer for enhanced comfort and moisture transportation. The incredibly abrasion-resistant outer allows it to excel in rocky, mountainous environments and easily withstand the rigour of frequent use in the great outdoors.
70D Gore-Tex Windstopper™ ePE panels are used across the front of the legs and seat, delivering windproof protection and high levels of water resistance for sitting or kneeling on wet ground and snow. These durable Gore-Tex Windstopper™ panels feature a recycled flannel backer to enhance the fabric's ability to transport moisture and provide additional warmth. The outer fabric comprises 100% recycled nylon, whilst the flannel backer uses a soft 100% recycled polyester and is also solution-dyed. Both the outer and the lining are Bluesign® & Oeko-tex® certified, helping to add to these trousers’ great eco-credentials.
This latest Gore-Tex ePE membrane has a more environmentally responsible construction and offers a durable, totally windproof, breathable and water-resistant performance. It creates a permeable layer for sweat to escape through the membrane and wick away when you're working hard. If you were wondering, ePE stands for expanded polyethene, which is light, thin yet durable, and PFC-free. If you're familiar with Trekitt descriptions, you may have seen that 'PFC-free' phrase floating around before. PFCs are per or poly-fluorinated chemicals, aka 'forever chemicals' that stay permanently in the environment and cause lasting damage to our ecosystems. Many companies are working towards a completely PFC-free future, so this is quite a breakthrough for the Gore-Tex® brand! In addition, this membrane has a reduced carbon footprint, as it uses laminates with a lower-mass membrane and select textiles, making it an ideal choice for more environmentally conscious adventurers.
As if all that wasn't enough, the trousers are then finished with a PFC-free DWR (durable water repellant) to further enhance the material's water-resistance properties. Although these trousers can shed light rain and snow, for prolonged downpours, we'd always recommend packing hardshell trousers for when the heavens open.
What are their features?
The Nordes Pants are fastened with a simple centre front fly with a secure press snap closure for quick access when nature calls. The waistband features functional loops to allow you to attach braces should you wish, whilst a low-bulk velcro adjustment at the waist allows you to dial in the perfect fit, providing some much-needed comfort after a big lunch.
For storage, you'll find two YKK zipped hand pockets that are compatible with a climbing harness, ideal for small easy access essentials and a large pleated high pocket for storing bulkier items such as gloves and a GPS device.
A precision trim fit keeps excess material around the lower legs to a minimum, allowing you to tackle more technical routes with confident foot placement. Whilst the articulated cut allows a natural, uninhibited range of movement, making them ideal for a wide range of outdoor activities. Quick action side ventilation zips allow you to easily increase airflow through the trousers on the go should you start to work up a sweat.
Finally, an adjustable reinforced bottom hem with an internal low-profile gaiter allows for an adaptable fit around various footwear styles and chunky mountaineering boots when you need more space around the ankles.
