What are the Ascendor AS Pants?
Ascendor AS Pants are literally built for steep, technical climbs in all seasons. They provide excellent protection against the elements, comfort and plenty of freedom of movement to help you push to the summit.
What are they made of?
These trousers are constructed using a mid-weight Matrix™ double weave with a soft brushed back. Matrix™ double weave is a softshell fabric that has been chosen specially by Rab for its unique performance properties. These fabrics also offer a high (30+) level of UV/UPF protection while lightweight and durable.
What are its features?
The low profile, part elasticated waistband makes room for a wider range of movement around the hips and waist, so stretching for that next move feels a little more pleasant. The waistband sits higher up, adding extra coverage and more security, also making it feel much more comfortable when using a climbing harness. It has a double snap closure with a traditional zip fly for quick, no faff fastening.
Belt and brace attachment loops offer extra support if needed, with multiple options giving you the chance to suit your own personal preference.
In terms of storage, there are two zipped, mesh lined hand pockets, which are perfect for storing energy gels and hill snacks, or ventilation if you're working up a sweat. Simply leave the pockets open to draw air in through the mesh bag, and close them once you've cooled back down. Easy! One other zipped pocket is located on the thigh, ideal for bulkier belongings that might hinder your movement in the hand pockets, such as a mobile phone or GPS.
Knees are articulated for better mobility, as more fabric is used around the joints to give them space to flex. There's also a long length gusset at the crotch, which helps to take the pressure away from vital seams if you're stretching out to your next move. Wave goodbye to those embarrassing split trousers moments!
At the bottom of the leg, reinforced kicker patches and hems add durability to places where boots or crampons have a higher chance of snagging as you walk. You can also adapt the size of the bottom hem to your boots or shoes using the zipped ankle gusset.
