What are the Ortles Ascent Mid GTX?
The Ortles Ascent Mid GTX offer premium comfort, support and protection, thanks to their durable construction and Gore-Tex® membrane.
They're versatile, waterproof mountain boots that will accommodate a range of activities, from hiking and scrambling to climbing, Via Ferrata, and mountaineering.
What are they made of?
Upper: The upper is suede leather, which has a smart finish and offers incredible durability. It's surrounded with a protective TPU rand for reinforcement around the edges of the boot - increasing wearability for rocky environments where they're likely to take a beating.
Lining: Made from a Gore-Tex® Insulated Comfort membrane, the lining of these boots offers reliable waterproof protection without compromising breathability. Though breathable, this lining is insulated with Gore-Tex Thermium® to provide extra warmth without adding excessive bulk. Overall, it's incredibly comfortable and offers fantastic performance for technical activities.
Insole: The crampon-compatible insole is made with stiff nylon fibreglass (carbon loaded), which makes it incredibly robust without adding too much weight to help prevent fatigue on long mountain days.
Midsole: Made with dual-density expanded PU, the midsole offers a good balance of structure and flexibility to allow the foot to move more naturally.
Outsole: A Vibram® Alpine Guide outsole provides maximum grip and traction on various surfaces like mixed mountain terrain, snow and ice, scree, and rocky, technical paths. The deep lugs also bite down well into mud and softer ground, making these boots ideal for longer routes in changeable environments.
What are their features?
The combination of the 3D-lacing system and Climbing Lacing enhances the fit around your whole foot to increase comfort and performance. 3D lacing divides the lacing into two zones around the foot, while Climbing Lacing extends down to the toes, allowing you to customise the tension and fit down the entire length of the shoe.
Salewa has also incorporated its '3F system' to provide the most secure fit possible. The system ensures a blister-free and accurate experience by attaching a thin wire to two of the lacing hooks, which wraps around the heel of the boot.
A Multi Fit Footbed+ allows you to customise the fit even further by reducing the volume of the heel area or front section (or both) using two interchangeable layers. The footbed features Cleansport NXT pro-biotic technology to help control odour, so you won't have to worry about offending your pals once you get home.
An anti-debris stretch nylon gaiter helps to prevent scree and stones from sneaking into your boots, while the flex collar offers enough flexibility to promote mobility for steep ascents and technical climbs. Heel stabilisers offer extra support and stability, of course. Finally, the ankle protector system does exactly what it says on the tin (so to speak) - protects the ankles and offers support to help prevent them from injury.
