What is the Bergtagen Down Jacket?
The Bergtagen Down Jacket is the latest addition to Fjallraven's Bergtagen collection and provides dependable warmth in a lightweight, highly compressible package. Created with a classic stitch through baffle design with ethically sourced 800FP goose down, it's designed to be the ideal packable insulating layer for all manner of winter adventures, above the tree line.
Materials & Technology
Recycled Polyamide Outer
The jacket's outer is constructed from a lightweight, wind and water-resistant material that's made from 100% recycled polyamide (nylon). Though lightweight, this material is highly abrasion-resistant and designed to provide a light protective layer around the insulation to allow it to fully loft effectively in a wide range of conditions, whilst still maintaining the jacket's excellent packability.
Fjallraven's recycled polyamide fabric is responsibly created from yarn scraps, unusable second-quality fabrics, and fabric off-cuts, whilst still retaining the same exceptional durability and performance as virgin polyamide. It helps reduce the use of raw materials and non-renewable sources while reducing air, water and soil contamination.
The jacket's outer is finished with a PFAS-Free DWR (durable water repellent) to allow light rain, moisture and snow to bead off the jacket, rather than soaking in. However please note, this does not make the jacket waterproof.
800 Fill Power Down
For warmth, the Bergtagen Down Jacket is filled with 250g of premium, ethically sourced, traceable 90/10 goose down.
Goose down has larger clusters than duck down, therefore it has a better warmth-to-weight ratio. The down clusters are made up of tiny feather-like strands that trap heat as they loft (fluff) up, which is why down jackets are so effective and popular during the winter.
Down provides excellent warmth for its weight by lofting to create insulating pockets of air around the body. This allows the jacket to provide substantial warmth while remaining lightweight and highly compressible when it needs to be packed away.
The Fjallraven Down Promise - Due to their extensive experience in the outdoor industry, Fjallraven has established a production process where 100% of the down used is traceable. The Fjallraven 'Down Promise' is considered in the manufacturing process of every down product, ensuring that down taken from birds has been gathered ethically and is of high quality. Fjallraven's down is collected as a bi-product from the food industry, helping to reduce waste from such a large industry, and never comes from birds that have been treated cruelly (eg. being force-fed or live plucked).
Reinforced Shoulders
Fjallraven have reinforced the shoulders with PrimaLoft® Black Insulation to help resist moisture and pressure from wearing a pack when you're out in the mountains, reducing general wear and tear and helping maintain an equal level of warmth and protection in changeable conditions.
This synthetic insulation is made from 100% recycled polyamide from post-consumer recycled material. It's created with P.U.R.E. Technology, which is a proprietary, renewable manufacturing technology that delivers a reduction in carbon emissions during the manufacturing process by up to 70%.
Features and Functionality
Stitch-Through Baffle Construction
The jacket features a classic stitch-through baffle design to aid packability and keep the jacket's overall weight down. This baffled construction helps to evenly distribute the down across the body and reduce the chance of cold spots forming over time.
Helmet-Compatible Storm Hood
A generous, helmet-compatible storm hood provides additional protection around the head and shelter from light rain and cold winds. The hood can easily be adjusted and cinched in over a beanie or a helmet, for added versatility both on and off the mountain.
Two-Way Front Zip
The jacket is fastened with a functional two-way front zip, which provides flexible ventilation options and allows the jacket to be compatible with a climbing harness. The zip features an internal placket for additional coverage to help prevent heat loss through the zip.
Practical Storage
For storage, you'll find two large zipped hand pockets that provide convenient storage for close-to-hand essentials such as spare gloves, trail snacks and a GPS Device. An additional zipped chest pocket provides secure storage for smaller, more valuable essentials that are vulnerable to the cold, such as a mobile phone.
Adjustable Hem and Cuffs
The jacket features adjustable cuffs and an elasticated drawcord hem to allow you to refine the fit over various layers and retain warmth around the body, whilst helping to keep cold winds out.
Repair-Focused Construction
In true Fjallraven style, the jacket has been designed with easily repairable details and even comes with its own self-fabric packbag, designed to be used as spare fabric in the future should the jacket get damaged or snagged over time. As with all Fjallraven products, the Bergtagen Down Jacket is designed to be a cherished addition to your outdoor kit that you'd rather repair than replace.

How does the Bergtagen Down Jacket fit?
The Bergtagen Down Jacket features a fairly generous regular fit and is designed to accommodate a complete mountain layering system. It's cut slightly longer than a traditional down jacket, to provide better coverage and warmth across the lower back and hips. If you're likely to wear lightweight layers or are looking for a closer-fitting style, we'd recommend considering a size down.
What is the Bergtagen Down Jacket best for?
- Alpine adventures
- Mountain activities
- Cold-weather layering
- Winter hiking, trekking and wild camping
- Lightweight additional insulation
PrimaLoft® Reinforced Shoulders Fjallraven has reinforced the shoulders with PrimaLoft® Black synthetic insulation to help the jacket cope with the pressure, moisture and abrasion associated with frequently carrying a backpack. Unlike down, synthetic insulation is less affected by compression and moisture, making it particularly effective beneath rucksack shoulder straps. Double layers of fabric further improve durability in this high-wear area, helping maintain consistent warmth and protection during long mountain days.
Helmet & Harness-Compatible Mountain Design The Bergtagen Down Jacket features a helmet-compatible storm hood with a two-way front zip, allowing it to integrate seamlessly with your climbing equipment. The adjustable hood can be cinched securely over a helmet or beanie for additional protection against cold winds, while the two-way zip can be opened from below for easier access when wearing a climbing harness. It's designed to be a practical insulation layer for a wide range of cold weather mountain pursuits, such as mountaineering, ski-touring, alpine climbing and hiking in winter.
Packable, Durable & Designed to Be Repaired The jacket is designed to balance lightweight packability and warmth with Fjallraven's focus on long-term durability. Its recycled polyamide shell is lightweight, abrasion-resistant and treated with a PFAS-free DWR to shed light rain and snow, while stitch-through baffles keep the construction light and compressible. Even the included self-fabric packbag has been designed with longevity and future repairability in mind. Rather than being considered disposable technical kit, the Bergtagen Down Jacket is deliberately designed to be repaired, maintained and kept in use for many years.
