What is the Anti Freeze XT Hoodie?
The Anti Freeze XT is a cosy, high-performance down jacket that offers fantastic warmth, comfort and practicality for various challenging mountain adventures and everyday errands in cold conditions.
This updated version boasts 800+ FP ExpeDRY™ goose down and Montane's advanced construction techniques for maximum thermal efficiency and freedom of movement.
What is it made from?
The Anti Freeze XT uses a Pertex® Quantum recycled nylon ripstop outer with a PFC-free DWR, ExpeDRY 800+ FP goose down and a lightweight 20D PEAQ recycled nylon lining.
Insulation: Montane has used 145g of ExpeDRY™ 90/10 goose down for an exceptional warmth-to-weight ratio. The Goose Down has a fill power of 800 + and is RDS and Track my Down™ certified, reassuring you that it has come from responsible, ethical sources.
ExpeDRY™ by Allied Feather is an innovative, chemical-free, non-toxic alternative to hydrophobic-treated down. ExpeDRY™ uses chemical-free gases to permanently bond non-toxic gold particles to the individual down clusters, aiding the evaporation of water molecules, allowing the down to dry faster and stay dry in high humidity and extreme conditions. This highly effective ability to move moisture helps the down retain maximum loft (fluffiness) and deal with various sources of moisture such as rain, snow and sweat, making it ideal for various environments and activities.
Montane has strategically placed Dynamic Insulation synthetic insulation panels on the underarm gusset for enhanced durability, warmth, and moisture management. Dynamic Insulation is lofty synthetic insulation made from recycled nylon that features a flexible four-way stretch for freedom of movement. Montane has used this synthetic insulation because it's effective at insulating even when wet, making it a robust choice for high-moisture areas around the face and the underarms.
Can't quite catch the lingo? Here's a quick break down.
Fill power - In short, fill power measures the warmth and efficiency of the down, alongside its ability to loft/fluff up. A rating of 800 fill power means that 1oz of this down fills 800 cubic inches of space when fully lofted. Want a more to know more? Check out our guide to all things fill-power related by clicking here.
R.D.S - The Responsible Down Standard ensures that the down is sourced from happy birds who haven't been plucked and have been well cared for.
Track My Down - Track My Down is a portal that can be accessed through SourceTRACK™ to learn about the fill used in your individual jacket. It allows you to find the source region of the down, verified third-party tested final fill power, cleanliness, content analysis and links to reports and certificates. To access this information, you will find a SourceTRACK™ lot number printed on the garment's hang tag, which you can enter into the Track My Down website.
Outer: The Anti Freeze XT's outer shell is made from 20 Denier Pertex® Quantum recycled nylon ripstop with a PFC/PFAS-free DWR (durable water repellent).
Pertex® Quantum provides a lightweight, soft feel and helps improve the efficiency of the insulation by trapping still air. Though recycled, it doesn't skimp on performance; its tightly woven structure provides excellent levels of wind resistance and durability, providing both comfort and enhanced thermal performance. The fabric is coated in a PFC/PFAS-free DWR, which encourages light rain or snow to bead off the fabric without the use of harmful forever chemicals. However, please note this does not make the jacket waterproof.
Lining: The lining of this jacket is constructed from lightweight 20D PEAQ recycled nylon with a PFC/PFAS-Free DWR (durable water repellent), which helps protect the down inside from getting damp from moisture from damp midlayers or sweat. PEAQ Down lining uses bluesign® approved recycled nylon plain weave, which is durable and abrasion-resistant yet lightweight. The lining feels soft next to the skin and is highly breathable, improving comfort and helping to regulate temperature during intense activity.
What are its features?
Starting from the top, an adjustable, insulated hood with Montane's PIVOT 2 hood system provides shelter from the elements. It features an independent aperture and crown adjustment for a secure, tailored fit that moves with you without hindering your line of sight.
The jacket is fastened with a simple central YKK Natulon recycled zip with an insulated CF placket to help prevent heat loss through the zip.
The jacket is constructed with a stitch-through baffle construction to reduce bulk, allowing it to be easily compressed to take up less space in your pack when not in use. An included cube stuff sack provides convenient storage when not in use. However, we don't recommend storing the jacket compressed for long periods of time; allowing the jacket to fully loft between uses prolongs the life and effectiveness of the down. The stuff sack also doubles as a source of extra fabric should the jacket need to be repaired after years of frequent use to extend its lifespan.
The Anti Freeze XT uses various premium construction techniques to enhance its performance and longevity. Montane's 'Reach fit' construction provides an improved arm lift and forward reach, helping to stop the jacket from riding up when moving dynamically. Strategically placed offset seams throughout minimise vertical seams, optimise fabric usability, lower bulk, and reduce cold spots, with the bonus of creating a clean and timeless aesthetic. The jacket uses synthetically insulated panels across the front of the face and the underarms for better moisture management and durability in high-wear, high-moisture areas.
For storage, you'll find two hand warmer pockets with YKK Natulon recycled zippers that offer space for a mobile phone, trail snacks and energy gels to keep you fueled during your adventure. The pockets have been thoughtfully placed to still be accessible when wearing a backpack or climbing harness. There is also a single internal chest pocket, ideal for keeping more valuable items such as a mobile phone secure and protected from the cold.
Finally, the jacket is finished with an adjustable bottom hem and elasticated, self-sealing cuffs to help lock in vital warmth and keep cold winds out.
