What is the Apex 900 Hoodie?
The Apex 900 Hoodie is an ultralight technical down jacket with an exceptional warmth-to-weight ratio for high altitude mountain adventures when reliable warmth and minimal weight are essential.
It combines premium 900+ ExpeDRY™ goose down with an ultralight 10D PERTEX® Quantum ripstop outer to deliver outstanding warmth whilst still remaining lightweight and packable.
Designed for mountaineering and expedition use, the jacket balances thermal efficiency with a carefully considered feature set that prioritises warmth, durability and functionality for technical climbing and alpine pursuits in the harshest environments.
Materials & Technology
EXPE DRY® 900 Fill Power Goose Down
For reliable warmth, Montane has used 150g of ExpeDRY™ 90/10 goose down for an exceptional warmth-to-weight ratio for high altitude mountaineering. The Goose Down has a fill power of 900 + and is RDS and Track my Down™ certified, reassuring you that it has come from responsible, ethical sources.
The high fill power rating provides exceptional loft, allowing the jacket to trap large volumes of insulating air while remaining lightweight and highly compressible, making it an extremely warm, packable and lightweight down jacket.
It's well known that down and water don't mix well, so to combat this, the down is treated with a specialised process called ExpeDRY™. ExpeDRY™ by Allied Feather is an innovative, chemical-free, non-toxic alternative to hydrophobic-treated down. ExpeDRY™ uses chemical-free gases to permanently bond non-toxic gold particles to the individual down clusters, aiding the evaporation of water molecules, causing the down to dry faster and stay dry in high humidity and extreme conditions. This highly effective ability to move moisture helps the down retain maximum loft (fluffiness) and deal with various sources of moisture such as rain, snow and sweat, making it ideal for various environments and activities.
PERTEX® Quantum Outer and Lining
The Apex 900's outer and lining are constructed from a super lightweight 10 Denier Pertex® Quantum recycled nylon nano ripstop with a PFC/PFAS-free DWR (durable water repellent).
Pertex® Quantum provides a lightweight, soft feel and helps improve the efficiency of the insulation by trapping still air. Though recycled, it doesn't skimp on performance; its tightly woven structure provides excellent levels of wind resistance and durability, providing both comfort and enhanced thermal performance. The fabric is coated in a PFC/PFAS-free DWR, which encourages light rain or snow to bead off the fabric without the use of harmful forever chemicals. However, please note this does not make the jacket waterproof.
Features and Functionality
Minimal Stitch Baffle Construction
The Apex 900 Hood features a minimalist stitch-through baffle construction that uses fewer stitch lines than a classic down jacket to reduce heat loss. This design utilises dart-shaped stitch lines to hold the down in place, providing an efficient balance of warmth and low weight, helping maximise loft and maintain the jacket's highly packable design.
Helmet-Compatible Hood
The cosy, insulated hood features Lycra® binding on the edges to help seal in vital warmth. The hood can be easily adjusted and cinched around a helmet or beanie via a rear crown adjustment, helping to keep it in place as you move, allowing you to focus on the task at hand.
Two-way YKK VISLON® NATULON® recycled Zip
The jacket is fastened with a two-way lightweight YKK VISLON® NATULON® recycled front zip, for low-bulk, easy fastening. The zip features an insulated front placket to help reduce heat loss through the zip and prevent cold winds from entering the jacket.
Harness Compatible Pocket Layout
For storage, you'll find two YKK VISLON® NATULON® recycled zipped hand pockets for secure storage of quick-access essentials, such as snacks, energy gels and a GPS device. The pockets have been strategically placed to ensure they stay functional and accessible when wearing a climbing harness or rucksack hipbelt.
An internal self-fabric stash pocket offers additional space for spare gloves, a buff and other mountain essentials.
Offset Seams
Montane has constructed the jacket with strategically placed offset seams throughout. This helps improve overall durability while helping reduce unnecessary weight and cold spots, whilst also enhancing comfort during prolonged use.
Adjustable Hem
The jacket features an elasticated, adjustable bottom hem that lets you cinch it in over various layers to improve warmth retention by helping seal out cold air in exposed conditions.
Stuff Sack Included - Ideal for Repairs
An included cube stuff sack provides convenient, compact storage in your pack when not in use; however, we don't recommend storing the jacket compressed for long periods of time. Allowing the jacket to loft between uses prolongs the life and effectiveness of the down loft. The stuff sack also doubles as a source of extra fabric should the jacket need to be repaired after years of frequent use to extend its lifespan.
