What is the Composite Hoodie?
It's a down/fleece hybrid hooded jacket that offers the perfect blend of style and functionality, making it an excellent choice for active and everyday use throughout the colder seasons. It uses a combination of highly abrasion-resistant stretchy fleece and 750+ fill power Hyperdry down for optimal thermal efficiency, durability and freedom of movement. It's designed to keep you warm during fast-paced adventures in cold conditions, whether climbing, scrambling, mountaineering, hiking or exploring urban environments.
What is it made from?
The Composite hoodie is made from an elite combination of 20D Pertex Quantum, 750+ fill power Hyperdry down and highly durable Thermo Stretch fleece.
Insulation: The torso of the jacket is filled with 82g HyperDry™ Duck Down. The baffles are created with a seamless tunnel weave construction to give the appearance of baffles without the traditional stitch lines. This increases the baffles' functionality, durability and longevity by reducing the possibility of malfunctions, such as down migration and damage over time. The minimal stitch lines also create a clean, timeless overall aesthetic to the jacket and aid wind resistance.
The down has a fill power of 750 and is R.D.S and Track my Down™ certified, reassuring you that it has come from sustainable, ethical sources.
HyperDRY™ Down is down insulation that has been treated to add water repellency. The treatment is PFC free, makes the insulation up to 40 times more hydrophobic than untreated down and four times faster drying. HyperDRY™ treatments also use 25 times less water and five times less chemistry to achieve the same level of performance as conventional methods.
Can't quite catch the lingo? Here's a quick break down.
Fill power - Fill power measures the warmth and efficiency of the Down, alongside its ability to loft/fluff up. A rating of 750 fill power means that 1oz of this Down fills 750 cubic inches of space when fully lofted.
R.D.S - The Responsible Down Standard ensures that the Down is sourced from happy birds who haven't been plucked and have been well cared for.
Track My Down - Track My Down is a portal that can be accessed through SourceTRACK™ to learn about the fill used in your individual jacket. It allows you to find the source region of the Down, verified third-party tested final fill power, cleanliness, content analysis and links to reports and certificates. To access this information, you will find a SourceTRACK™ lot number printed on the garment's hang tag, which you can enter into the Track My Down website.
Hydrophobic - Hydrophobic down dries out and lofts quicker, resisting moisture from light rain or sweat and condensation that may build up inside the jacket during intense mountain activity. PFC free Hydrophobic finishes like HyperDRY™ are not fluorinated, and therefore don't cause damage to the environment like previously used fluorinated treatments - an excellent feature for more eco-conscious adventurers!
Outer - The Composite Hoodie is constructed using a combination of two out fabrics. Montane use 20D Pertex® Quantum with a two-way stretch to house the warm HyperDry down insulation. Pertex® Quantum uses precise weaving of fine and technical yarns, to create a lightweight, windproof fabric that is designed to trap still air, helping to warm the insulation and maintain its efficiency, whilst creating a light, protective barrier from the elements. It's finished with a lightweight DWR (durable water repellent) that sheds light rain and snow to stop it from soaking in; however, please note that this doesn't make it fully waterproof.
The sleeves and hood are created from Montane's Thermo Stretch fleece. This extremely durable, high-performance fleece has a highly abrasion-resistant outer and a soft brushed fleece inner for the perfect balance of warmth, comfort and durability. This means it can withstand a frequent beating from rocky mountainsides and the rigour of regular backpack wearing.
It also features a four-way stretch for unhindered movement whilst climbing and has outstanding moisture management capabilities to keep you comfortable during various outdoor activities.
What are its features?
The majority of the Composite Hoodie's techy features are predominantly in the materials section above and how it's constructed. But it does have a snug-fitting hood that sits comfortably underneath a helmet for warmth and protection from the elements whilst climbing. A simple YKK Vislon centre zip and two YKK reverse coil zipped hand pockets for keeping your phone, trail snacks and GPS device to hand.
