What is the Norrona Men's LofotenGore-Tex Insulated Jacket?
The Norrona Lofoten Gore-Tex Insulated Jacket is for everything from powder hunting to snowy mountain treks. Initially made for freeride skiing and snowboarding, it's also perfect for everyday slope sessions or backcountry missions in colder weather.
What is it made of?
Gore-Tex ePE membrane
Lofoten jacket comes with a two-layer Gore-Tex ePE membrane. With a waterproof rating of 28,000 mm, it stands up to heavy snow and wet conditions without compromise. The fabric also offers RET < 20 breathability, allowing moisture from sweat to escape efficiently, which helps regulate temperature during high-output activities like freeriding or alpine touring. Windproof and quiet, this two-layer version is also softer and more supple than typical three-layer GORE-TEX, making it more comfortable and better suited for freeride movement.
Outer Face Fabric
The outer face fabric is 100% 75D recycled polyester, weighing 104 g/m², which adds to the jacket's durability. Its tightly woven structure helps resist abrasions from rough gear, icy chairlifts, or frequent falls in powder. Despite its toughness, it maintains a supple hand feel and doesn't restrict movement, making it ideal for dynamic freeride sessions.
Primaloft Silver Eco Insulation
The Lofoten also has Primaloft Silver insulation, which performs excellently in cold, damp environments. It's made from 100% recycled polyester, sourced primarily from post-consumer waste. The insulation is distributed through body mapping (60 g/m² in the shoulders, elbows, and front, and 40 g/m² in the collar and back).
This targeted insulation ensures you stay warm in the core and high-exposure areas while allowing more breathability and flexibility in spots that are less susceptible to heat loss.
Responsible Material Certifications
The jacket's fabrics are Oeko-Tex certified, ensuring they are free from harmful substances, and Bluesign approved, meaning the textile production process meets high standards for chemical management, water use, and worker safety. The jacket also features a PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent) finish, avoiding fluorinated chemicals that harm the environment.
More than 50% of the synthetic fibres in the jacket are recycled, and Norrona is transparent about its production through an open factory list and regular factory inspections.
What are its features?
Storm-Ready Hood and Snow Protection
The helmet-compatible storm hood is engineered to fit snugly over a freeride helmet, offering full coverage without restricting head movement or peripheral vision. With a one-hand adjustment system, you can quickly tighten it down on the go—even while wearing gloves—making it ideal for blustery summits and sudden snow squalls.
Snow Skirt
The jacket also includes a snap-and-fold snow skirt, which blocks powder from entering from below. It can be discreetly tucked away when not needed, keeping your setup streamlined during lift rides or bluebird days.
Ventilation and Temperature Control
The jacket features underarm ventilation zippers that allow quick airflow, which helps avoid overheating during intense activity. These vents are easily accessible and backed with mesh, allowing you to regulate temperature without compromising protection or comfort.
Pockets and Storage
The jacket has many storage options to keep essentials within easy reach. Hand-warming pockets are placed for comfort, even when wearing a harness or backpack. Chest and Napoleon pockets offer secure and convenient phone, map, or radio storage.
A key-card pocket on the arm allows quick access to electronic lift gates, so you can glide without fumbling with your jacket. Inside, you'll find a mesh stash pocket ideal for goggles or gloves and a zippered inner chest pocket for valuables you want to keep secure.
Built-In Goggle Wipe
A small but thoughtful addition, the built-in goggle wipe ensures you can clear your lenses quickly when visibility drops. Whether dealing with snowflakes, fog, or smudges, it's right where you need it.
Articulated Elbows and Hem Adjustment
The jacket's articulated elbows enhance mobility, providing your arms great freedom of movement, whether planting poles, adjusting gear or throwing tricks in the terrain park. For added functionality, the one-hand hem adjustment lets you cinch the bottom of the jacket tight in seconds, sealing in warmth and shielding your core from wind and snow.
Water-Resistant Zippers
To complete the package, all main access points and vents use YKK® water-resistant zippers, adding an extra layer of defence against moisture while remaining durable and easy to operate in cold conditions.
