What is the DAS Parka?
It's a super warm, synthetically insulated jacket designed to withstand the coldest mountain activities and winters that are almost too harsh to handle. Even when wet, the DAS Parka provides exceptional warmth and is best suited to technical activities like climbing, belaying and multi-day mountaineering adventures.
What is it made of?
The outer of this jacket uses 10D Pertex® Quantum Pro, which is exceptionally lightweight and weather-resistant, while the lining uses bluesign® approved Pertex® Quantum. A PU dry coating also covers the outer shell to increase abrasion resistance and durability, and both materials are finished with a PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent). PrimaLoft® Gold Eco insulation with Crosscore™ technology is sandwiched between the two layers of material to provide an exceptional warmth-to-weight ratio that still performs when wet.
Can't quite catch the lingo? Here's a quick breakdown:
Pertex® Quantum/Quantum Pro - Combining 35 years of experience in the precise weaving of fine and technical yarns, this material uses a tightly woven construction that allows insulation to fully loft. Pertex® Quantum fabrics are designed to trap still air, helping to warm the insulation and maintain its efficiency whilst creating a light, protective barrier from the elements.
bluesign® approved - bluesign® approval means the fabric is manufactured in a way that is safe for the environment, workers and consumers. bluesign® certifications ensure that the materials used avoid harmful substances, use reduced air and water emissions, increase resource productivity, and the production line is more transparent and trustworthy.
PFC-free - PFC-free means perfluorinated chemical free. Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs), used to add water repellent to textiles, aren't able to break down, so once they reach nature via factory water waste, they stay in the ecosystem and contaminate living organisms, working their way up the food chain. PFC's are suspected carcinogens and have been known to affect mammal reproduction and hormone production. Therefore, many leading brands in the outdoor industry are now prioritising cutting out the use of these chemicals entirely to contribute to a more responsible manufacturing process.
DWR (durable water repellent) - allows light rain and snow to bead off the fabric instead of allowing it to soak in, enhancing the product's breathability further whilst keeping some of the wet weather out! However, please note that DWR doesn't make this product fully waterproof.
PrimaLoft® Gold Eco insulation with Crosscore™ technology - Primaloft® Gold with Crosscore technology is a woven synthetic insulation made with 90% recycled material sourced from postconsumer plastic bottles. It is the Gold standard of Primaloft® insulation, providing the ultimate level of warmth. The technically advanced fibres are infused with Aerogel technology, which is used by NASA and acclaimed for its ultra lightweight yet ultra insulative properties.
This product is also made in a Fair Trade Factory™, giving Patagonia more control of the operations in the factories they choose to work with. Patagonia proudly offers more Fair Trade styles than any other apparel brand in the current market. But how does it work? Patagonia pays a premium for every item made in one of these factories, and this money goes directly to the factory workers. A democratically elected committee of Fair Trade workers will decide how this extra money gets spent in each Fair Trade factory. The program also promotes worker health and safety, and social and environmental compliance, while encouraging healthier dialogue between workers and management.
What are its features?
An alpine-helmet-compatible, single-point-adjustable hood with elasticated binding provides optimum warmth and protection with a more customisable fit.
A two-way, centre-front zip lets you unzip the jacket from the bottom to access a climbing harness or dump heat quickly. The zip also has an internal wind flap for extra weather protection.
For storage, there's an external left-chest pocket and two handwarmer pockets, perfect for stowing small essentials like energy gels and snacks. Internal drop-in pockets are ideal for keeping gloves dry and protected or even preventing a water bottle from freezing.
Low-profile, elasticated cuffs sit softly on the arms. You can push them up your arms without having them slip back down, too, making for easy ventilation. Internal elastic cuffs also double up as optional thumb loops to pull the sleeves over the hands if you seek extra warmth.
