What is the Infinity Windstopper Hoodie?
It's a warm, durable and windproof down jacket, designed to provide uncompromising protection on exposed alpine climbs and long cold, windy days out on the hill. Filled with premium 800FP European goose down, it utilises the latest Gore-Tex Windstopper® ePE membrane for complete windproof protection.
What is it made from?
Insulation: The Infinity Windstopper Hoodie uses 194g of 800 fill power European goose down with Grangers fluorocarbon-free hydrophobic finish, offering maximum loft (fluffiness) and insulation.
European Goose Down is fantastic quality down - it has larger clusters than Duck Down which improves the warmth to weight ratio. These clusters are made up of tiny feather strands that trap heat, which is why it's so important to get a quality jacket with a construction that allows its insulation to loft effectively!
The down is treated with a Grangers fluorocarbon-free hydrophobic finish, which adds light water resistance to the down itself. This helps the down maintain its thermal performance in damp environments, as it's no secret down and moisture don't like each other! Grangers Down Defend® is a hydrophobic down treatment that is bluesign® approved and helps keep down lofted in damp conditions. It gives the down over 375x more durability than untreated down, extending the lifespan of your jacket. In Rab's testing (shake test), this virgin down can resist moisture for at least 15000 minutes and also improves the down's fill power by up to 5%. Allowing the jacket to keep you warmer for longer. Neat right?

Fill power - Fill power measures the warmth and efficiency of the down, alongside its ability to loft/fluff up. A rating of 800 fill power means that 1oz of this down fills 800 cubic inches of space when fully lofted. Hydrophobic - Hydrophobic down dries out and lofts quicker, resisting moisture from sweat that may build up as you warm up inside the jacket. Fluorocarbon-free Hydrophobic finishes, such as Granger's Down Defend, don't use harmful chemicals that cause damage to the environment - a bonus for more eco-conscious adventurers.
Outer: The jacket's outer is constructed from 30D Windstopper® by Gore-Tex Labs for a balance of protection, low-weight and durability. This lightweight 30D face fabric is made from recycled polyamide (nlyon) and is robust enough to deal with frequent use in the outdoors, whilst still being light enough to allow the down to loft effectively.
Windstopper® by Gore-Tex Labs blocks all wind, providing welcomed shelter and reducing wind chill on cold exposed routes. The technology still allows plenty of breathability, helping prevent moisture build-up inside the jacket, keeping you comfortable and managing temperature during intense activity it uses the brands latest ePE membrane, which is made without the use of PFAS/PFC chemicals and is finished with a fluorocarbon-free DWR (durable water repellent) to encourage the fabric to shed moisture instead of soaking in. However, please note this does not make the jacket waterproof.
If you were wondering, PFAS/PFCs are per or poly-fluorinated chemicals, aka 'forever chemicals' that stay permanently in the environment and cause lasting damage to our ecosystems. This is why many companies are working towards a completely PFC-free future, and this latest ePE membrane from Gore-Tex® is a big step forward for the brand.
Lining: The jacket's lining is constructed from 20D Pertex® Quantum. It's made from recycled polyamide and uses tightly woven fibres for excellent wind resistance and durability, whilst still being lightweight and soft. It's designed to perfectly balance wind resistance and breathability, providing the ultimate performance for intense mountain missions. The Pertex® Quantum lining is effective at trapping still air, helping to warm the insulation and maintain its efficiency whilst creating a light, protective barrier from the elements.
What are its features?
Starting from the top, you'll find a helmet-compatible hood with a stiffened peak to shield you from the elements. The hood is fully insulated and adjustable, allowing it to be cinched in around the face to keep you warm and toasty without obstructing your field of vision.
A two-way YKK® VISLON® front zip provides flexibility for use with a climbing harness and freedom of movement through the hips when required. The zip features an insulated full-length baffle to prevent warm air from escaping through the jacket and cold winds from finding their way in.
The jacket has been cleverly constructed with minimal seams across the shoulders and chest to provide maximum weather protection. The sleeves are articulated for a more natural shape whilst offering improved freedom of movement and better arm lift for various mountain pursuits.
For storage, you'll find two roomy zipped hand pockets that offer space for your trail essentials or a cosy home for your hands on frosty days. There is also an internal chest pocket, ideal for protecting more valuable items from the cold, such as a mobile phone, and an internal mesh dump pocket, ideal for stashing gloves or a beanie, keeping them ready for when required.
An adjustable bottom hem and cuffs allow you to maximise thermal retention by trapping warm air inside the jacket and keeping cold winds out.
Finally, the jacket features Rab's regular fit to offer a little extra room to maximise freedom of movement and space for your own layering system underneath without feeling restricted.
