What is the Xenair Alpine Flex Jacket?
It's a light and packable synthetically insulated jacket, perfect for active use both on and off the mountain. It uses a combination of synthetic insulation and stretchy fleece side panels to deliver adaptable and breathable warmth to keep you comfortable during tough ascents in mixed conditions.
What is it made from?
Insulation: For warmth, the Xenair Alpine Flex Jacket uses 40gsm of PrimaLoft Gold Active+ synthetic insulation and non-insulated Thermic™ stretch fleece panels. It contains 55% post-consumer recycled material. This insulation delivers the ideal balance of warmth and packability.
Primaloft Gold Active+ insulation provides ample warmth, even when wet, which is a big advantage compared to down, whilst also being a vegan alternative. This insulation features a special fibre structure, allowing it to be incredibly breathable and help to regulate body temperature by balancing the body's microclimate when working hard. It's partly made from recycled polyester, which, though recycled, maintains performance and feel. Created in a sheet construction, the insulation won't migrate and has a four-way stretch to enhance flexibility and freedom of movement for various outdoor activities.
The stretchy side panels are made from Rab's Thermic™ stretch fleece, which offers a balance of durability, warmth and fast-drying properties with minimal bulk to help reduce the jacket's overall pack size.
Fabrics: The outer fabric in the Xenair Vest is constructed from a lightweight 20D Pertex Quantum Air face fabric. Pertex® Quantum Air perfectly balances wind resistance and breathability, so you won't have to chop and change layers when you start to work harder. It's designed for intense, fast-paced mountain missions and is treated with a lightweight fluorocarbon-free DWR (durable water repellent) that encourages light rain and snow to bead off the material instead of soaking in; however, please note that this doesn't make it waterproof.
The inside lining is 20D recycled nylon, which helps wick moisture away from your body to regulate your body temperature. It's exceptionally soft next to the skin, and being recycled further adds to this jacket's great eco-credentials.
What are its features?
Starting from the top, a snug-fitting hood fits comfortably underneath a climbing helmet. It's fully insulated and has a semi-elasticated opening for a close fit around the face, helping to seal in body warmth and shield you from cold winds and light rain. The Xenair Alpine Flex features a slim fit design that sits comfortably close to the body for maximum thermal efficiency, with just enough room for a baselayer and technical fleece to be layered underneath.
The sleeves are pre-curved and articulated to provide a natural range of movement and arm lift. Sleeve articulation also helps stop them from riding up when your arm is fully stretched out, reducing cold gaps around the wrists where heat could escape easily.
For storage, there are two YKK® zip hand pockets, great for keeping your hands toasty or stowing additional items such as trail snacks, a GPS device, or headphones. One of the pockets doubles as a pack-away sack for the jacket, providing compact storage when not in use, making it an ideal jacket to pop in your backpack, ready for when the temperature drops.
