What is the Stratum Hoodie?
The Stratum Hoodie is a technical hybrid midlayer jacket designed to deliver highly breathable active insulation when you're moving fast in the mountains in cold conditions.
Rather than focusing purely on maximum warmth, the Stratum is engineered to balance insulation, breathability, and moisture management to regulate your temperature throughout the day, reducing the need to keep stopping to swap layers.
Materials & Technology
PRIMALOFT® Gold Active Vent Insulation
The Stratum Hoodie uses 80g of PrimaLoft® Gold Active Vent insulation in a body-mapped construction for breathable warmth, with highly effective moisture management to keep you comfortable when the trail gets tough.
Primaloft® Gold Active is a synthetic insulation that provides ample warmth, even when wet. The ability to retain heat when wet is a huge advantage of synthetic insulation compared to down, alongside it being a vegan alternative.
This insulation is also incredibly air permeable for excellent levels of breathability to help regulate body temperature and reduce the risk of overheating during climbs or fast-paced movement.
It's made from 80% recycled polyester, which, though recycled, maintains performance and feel. This insulation does not migrate and has a four-way stretch to enhance flexibility and freedom of movement, whilst also being compressible and quick-drying, making it well-suited to the unpredictable UK mountain conditions.
OCTA Lining Technology
Inside the jacket, Montane has used OCTA® 100 insulation in a body mapped construction for the ideal balance of warmth and breathability in high moisture areas. OCTA® 100 is a lightweight, hi-loft synthetic insulation designed for breathable warmth when moving fast on the trail. OCTA® 100 is made from 100% recycled polyester and uses a unique fibre construction with a distinctive cross-section with eight projections aligned in a radial pattern, surrounding a hollow fibre. Its innovative construction makes the fabric super light, quick drying, highly breathable and extremely warm, to help regulate temperature during intense activity while maintaining warmth in colder conditions without overheating. This special insulation also meets Oeko-Tex® certification standards.
FEATHERLITE Stretch Air Fabric
Montane has used their 20D Featherlite Stretch Air material for the outer and the lining of the jacket. Featherlite Stretch Air is a stretch plain weave material made from a combination of nylon and elastane.
The fabric is engineered to maximise breathability, freedom of movement and move efficiently with the body while maintaining durability for demanding mountain use. Its lightweight construction helps improve comfort during high-output activity while reducing unnecessary bulk.
Fluorocarbon-Free DWR Finish
The outer of the jacket is finished with a non-fluorocarbon DWR (durable water repellent) coating to provide light water resistance for added protection in changeable weather conditions. However, please note that this does not make the jacket waterproof - we always recommend carrying a waterproof hard shell for wet conditions.
Features and Functionality
Body-Mapped Warmth
As mentioned above, Montane has used a combination of breathable insulation throughout the jacket to balance warmth, breathability and moisture management. PRIMALOFT® Gold Active Vent provides reliable warmth, while low-profile OCTA fleece allows air and moisture to escape in key areas to regulate your temperature and keep you feeling comfortable throughout the day, while keeping bulk to a minimum.
Technical Hood Design
The low-profile hood is designed to sit comfortably under a climbing helmet to provide warmth and protection in exposed conditions. Elastic trims around the edge of the hood help maintain a secure fit while keeping bulk low.
Full-Length Two-Way Front Zip
The jacket is fastened with a two-way YKK NATULON® recycled front zip that provides reliable performance while reducing environmental impact. The two-way zip allows quick ventilation to help regulate temperature, should you start to warm up on steep ascent and improves comfort when sitting, belaying or wearing a harness.
Mountain-Ready Pocket Layout
For storage, you'll find two zipped hand pockets and two external chest pockets for keeping essentials close to hand, such as a mobile phone, GPS device, gloves, energy gels and snacks. The pockets are positioned to remain accessible when wearing a climbing harness or backpack hip belt, ensuring they stay functional, whatever the adventure.
Adjustable Hem and Low-Bulk Cuffs
The jacket is finished with an adjustable bottom hem and low-profile stretch cuffs with integrated thumb loops to help refine the fit to prevent warm air from escaping the jacket and cold winds from getting in. The stretch cuff thumb loops help to keep the sleeves in place when layering and create a seal against the elements to further retain warmth without impacting comfort.
