Gore-Tex Pro ePE MembraneThe Alta XT is built from robust 70-denier recycled nylon fabric with excellent abrasion and tear resistance. It utilises the latest Gore-Tex Pro ePE membrane, which is free from PFC/PFAS chemicals and delivers an exceptional hydrostatic head rating of 28,000mm for maximum shelter.
What is the Alta XT Jacket?
It's a robust, fully featured, mountain-ready waterproof shell jacket designed to provide maximum wet weather protection for various gnarly mountain missions and challenging ascents. It utilises the latest Gore-Tex Pro ePE membrane and Montane's advanced shell construction to deliver maximum performance and breathability with reduced weight.
What is it made from?
Montane has used a highly durable 70-denier recycled nylon fabric with the latest Gore-Tex Pro ePE membrane for maximum performance with minimal environmental impact. Despite its tough 70 denier construction, this plain weave fabric feels surprisingly smooth and low bulk, yet reassuringly sturdy. It's made from 100% recycled nylon with a solution-dyed micro grid woven backer and the latest Gore-Tex Pro ePE technology. This combination provides excellent abrasion resistance and fantastic waterproof, windproof protection for the most challenging conditions, whether torrential wind and rain or harsh snow.
Gore-Tex Pro pulls out all the stops, being the most rugged Gore-Tex product available. Not only is it incredibly durable, but it also offers the highest level of breathability to enhance temperature regulation and moisture management. The jacket features a hydrostatic head rating of 28,000 mm and a RET breathability statistic of <13, making it an ideal choice for a wide range of gnarly outdoor adventures and mountain missions when reliable waterproof protection is critical.
The jacket is finished with a PFC-Free DWR (durable water repellent) coating to encourage rain, snow and mud to bead off the jacket instead of soaking in, helping to keep the waterproof membrane clean, protected and in tip-top shape.
If you were wondering, the latest Gore-tex technology uses an ePE membrane, which stands for expanded polyethene, which is light, thin yet durable, and PFC-free. If you're familiar with Trekitt descriptions, you may have seen that 'PFC-free' phrase floating around before. PFCs are per or poly-fluorinated chemicals, aka 'forever chemicals' that stay permanently in the environment and cause lasting damage to our ecosystems. Many companies are working towards a completely PFC-free future, so this is quite a breakthrough for the Gore-Tex® brand! In addition, this membrane has a reduced carbon footprint, as it uses laminates with a lower-mass membrane and selected textiles, making it an ideal choice for more environmentally conscious adventurers.
All fabrics used in the Alta XT are Bluesign® approved, meaning they're manufactured in a way that is safe for the environment, workers and consumers. Bluesign® certifications ensure that the materials used avoid harmful substances, use reduced air and water emissions, increase resource productivity, and the production line is more transparent and trustworthy.
What are its features?
Starting from the top, a fully adjustable hood with a laminated peak provides essential shelter from the elements. The hood features Montane's top-tier PIVOT 3 hood system, which provides a linked crown and aperture dual adjustment and added volume reduction. The hood can quickly be adjusted with one hand, reducing time spent faffing when the weather turns nasty in challenging environments. The hood can be cinched in close for a secure fit over a climbing helmet or beanie hat for maximum shelter without restricting your vision, allowing you to have maximum field of vision for the task at hand.
An internal rear neck guard adds structure to the jacket and helps to protect the jacket from oil contamination, safeguarding the long-term performance of the waterproof membrane.
The Alta XT showcases Montane's latest advanced construction techniques that improve the jacket's breathability and durability while removing unnecessary material to reduce weight and increase performance. The innovative Sew-Free construction utilises fully bonded pockets and zips to minimise weight and bulk while maximising breathability, comfort and packability, all without sacrificing protection or performance.
Thoughtfully designed offset seam intersections throughout the jacket improve durability across the seams, enhancing comfort levels and extending the jacket's longevity. To further increase durability, Montane have removed seams in high-wear areas for maximum compatibility and comfort when wearing a climbing harness for long periods.
Montane's innovative Barrier technology at all of the jacket's openings and hems actively combats water ingress by preventing the wicking of external moisture from the edges of the jacket throughout the day, ensuring you stay dry in demanding conditions.
The jacket is fastened with a two-way YKK Aquaguard® Natulon recycled zip with an inner Storm Guard placket to provide an additional barrier against the elements. The two-way zip can be undone from the bottom up, allowing extra ventilation around your midsection or for easy use with a climbing harness.
Two-way, Sew-Free Aquaguard pit zips offer versatile ventilation options, allowing you to quickly dump heat if required while providing good coverage to protect you during downpours. The two-way zip enables you to easily adapt the jacket's ventilation depending on the level of weather protection needed.
For storage, two generously sized Sew-Free Aquaguard zipped chest pockets provide ample space for storing items such as gloves, a beanie, a small guidebook, a head torch and snacks while still being easily accessible when wearing a climbing harness. There is also a single-bonded internal zipped chest pocket that offers a safe haven for more valuable essentials, such as a mobile phone or GPS device and an offset stash pocket for additional gloves or snacks.
The jacket is finished with a fully adjustable bottom hem that can be cinched in with one hand and adjustable cuffs, allowing you to further seal out the elements and trap warm air inside the jacket in adverse conditions.
The Alta XT has been created in Montane's 'mountain fit,' which is cut to provide enough room underneath for a technical layering system. The fit has been engineered to provide a dropped rear hem, optimum arm lift, and articulated sleeves for an enhanced range of movement suitable for various mountain activities and technical moves. This enhanced fit helps stop the jacket from riding up when reaching up high, maintaining maximum coverage and protection from the elements during various outdoor activities.
