What is the Kangri GTX Jacket?
It's an updated version of Rab's classic mountain hiking waterproof shell jacket, which now utilises the latest Gore-Tex Performance ePE membrane to keep you dry when the heavens open. Reliable, comfortable and high-performing, the Kangri GTX Jacket is the ideal waterproof shell for hiking, hill walking and general outdoor use across the seasons.
What is it made from?
Rab has built the jacket from 70 denier 3-layer GORE-TEX Performance ePE for maximum protection from the elements, without the use of PFAS/ PFC chemicals.
The jacket's 3-layer construction comprises a durable 70 denier face fabric made from recycled polyamide (nylon), a GORE-TEX Performance ePE waterproof and windproof membrane and a smooth polyamide lining.
The 70 denier face fabric is reassuringly sturdy, yet it's not too heavy or uncomfortable to hold you back. It's robust enough to deal with the abrasion from frequent use with a backpack, making it ideal for years of use in the outdoors.
This latest Gore-Tex® ePE technology is made using recycled fabrics and without the use of PFAS/PFC chemicals for a significantly reduced environmental impact. If you were wondering, PFAS/PFCs are per or poly-fluorinated chemicals, aka 'forever chemicals' that stay permanently in the environment and cause lasting damage to our ecosystems. This is why many companies are working towards a completely PFC-free future, and this latest membrane from Gore-Tex® is a big step forward for the brand. The GORE-TEX Performance ePE membrane provides an exceptional Hydrostatic Head rating of 28,000mm to reliably shield you from wet weather in various wet weather environments.
The jacket is finished with a PFC-Free DWR (durable water repellent) coating to encourage rain, snow and mud to bead off the jacket instead of soaking in, helping to keep the jacket's waterproof membrane clean, protected and in tip-top shape. To find out more about how to care for your waterproof jacket and why you should maintain the DWR, check out our YouTube video here.
What are its features?
Starting at the top, a fully adjustable hood provides essential shelter from the elements, whilst its flexible, stiffened peak keeps rain and snow away from the face.
A simple, two-way centre front zip offers versatile ventilation, flexibility around the hips when required and compatibility with a climbing harness. The zip features a soft fleece-lined chin guard to prevent any discomfort around the face when fully closed.
Two-way YKK® AquaGuard® pit zips offer excellent ventilation by allowing you to easily increase the air flow inside the jacket to cool you down if you start to work up a sweat on tough sections of trail.
For storage, you'll find two generous YKK® AquaGuard® zipped hand pockets that offer space for stowing various trail essentials such as snacks, gloves and a mobile phone.
The jacket is finished with an elasticated hem and anti-snag hook-and-loop adjustable cuffs to help further seal out the elements.
The Kangri is created with Rab's regular fit, which offers a little extra room to maximise freedom of movement and space for your own layering system underneath, without feeling restricted.
