What is the Gregory Nano 18L Backpack?
The Gregory Nano 18L Backpack is a versatile and compact backpack designed to cater to a wide range of adventures and excursions. With its 18-litre capacity, it offers ample storage space for your essentials, making it suitable for various activities. Whether you're exploring your neighbourhood, tackling your favourite hiking trail, or embarking on adventures in picturesque locations like the hills of Tuscan wine country, the Nano 18L Backpack is your reliable companion.
What is it made of?
The Nano backpack is designed using data from the Lifecycle Analysis (LCA) tool, which helps reduce its environmental impact. By incorporating 100% recycled polyester fabric in a portion of the pack, Gregory has significantly lowered its carbon footprint. This eco-conscious approach repurposes existing materials, reducing the need for virgin resources and supporting Gregory's sustainability and waste reduction commitment.
The backpack's body is constructed from 210D honeycomb cryptorip nylon, a robust and lightweight material known for its exceptional durability. This fabric can withstand the rigours of outdoor adventures, providing excellent resistance to tears and abrasions. Whether hiking through rugged terrain or navigating urban streets, this material ensures your backpack remains resilient and dependable.
Additionally, the fabric features a C0 DWR (Durable Water-repellent) coating, designed without the use of PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), which are commonly found in many water-repellent treatments but are known to be harmful to both the environment and human health. By opting for a C0 DWR, this backpack offers reliable water resistance to protect your gear from light rain and moisture without compromising environmental responsibility. The absence of PFAS in the coating means it significantly reduces the impact on ecosystems, ensuring that no harmful chemicals are released into waterways or the atmosphere.
The Gregory Nano 18L backpack's base is crafted from 450D high-density nylon, which adds extra strength and resilience to the bottom area, typically the most prone to wear and tear. This reinforced base enhances the backpack's durability, making it suitable for various activities and terrains. It also features the same C0 DWR coating as the body, offering water resistance while being environmentally conscious.
The backpack's lining is made from 40% post-consumer recycled 135D polyester, which helps reduce waste by repurposing materials that would otherwise end up in landfills. It also features a PFC-free durable water repellent (DWR) treatment, providing water resistance without the use of harmful chemicals.
The backpack's harness, hip belt, lumbar support, and chassis are all crafted from multi-density foam and designed to provide optimal comfort and support. This foam technology features varying densities that cater to different body areas, ensuring a balance of cushioning and stability where it's needed most. The harness and hip belt offer softer foam for comfort, while firmer foam in the lumbar area and chassis delivers crucial support for load distribution.
The multi-density foam system helps reduce pressure points during long wear and enhances the backpack's overall structure. By combining both soft and firm foam, it adapts to your body's shape and movement while ensuring that the backpack maintains its shape and stability under heavy loads. This makes it ideal for extended adventures, providing comfort, support, and durability even in demanding conditions.
What type of back system is used?
The backpack is designed with an updated back panel and harness perforations to enhance breathability, ensuring a cooler and more comfortable experience during your adventures. Its back system includes a Die-Cut back panel that promotes optimal airflow, keeping you cool and ventilated, even during more intense activities.
The padded air mesh shoulder harnesses further enhance comfort. With effective cushioning and better weight distribution, these harnesses help minimise shoulder and upper body pain, including soreness, pressure points, and chafing.
A one-handed sternum strap buckle allows for easy adjustments on the move. At the same time, the routing loops are designed to seamlessly integrate a hydration system, helping you stay refreshed and energised during your outdoor adventures.
What are its features?
This backpack's primary access is via a panel loader design. Unlike top-loading backpacks, the panel loader allows you to open the main compartment horizontally. This design grants quick access to your gear, eliminating the need to rummage through layers of items to reach what you need.
At the forefront of this Nano backpack, you can find a stretch mesh pocket equipped with a secure buckle closure. This pocket offers a convenient spot for items like maps, snacks, or a light jacket, allowing for quick and easy access to your essentials. An internal mesh zippered pocket with a key clip keeps crucial items organised and secure. You can stash things like keys, identification documents, or small electronics.
The dual side mesh pockets are designed to accommodate water bottles, ensuring you stay hydrated throughout your trek and providing quick access to beverages without the need to take the backpack off. These enhanced water bottle pockets now feature two-way, durable stretch mesh, allowing them to securely hold various bottle sizes while maintaining their shape and strength over time. The improved stretch mesh ensures better durability and flexibility, making accessing and storing your bottles easier during any adventure.
The externally accessed hydration compartment simplifies on-the-go hydration. It is positioned for quick access and features a universal hydration hanger that accommodates various hydration systems, such as bladders or reservoirs of different sizes and designs. This setup allows easy refilling and maintenance without rummaging through the main compartment, promoting better organisation during outdoor escapades. This pocket also doubles as a secure tablet or laptop sleeve.
The large, easily accessible zippered main compartment is complemented by dual compression straps with quick-release buckles. These straps offer ample storage space for gear and clothing and ensure your load remains secure and stable throughout your journey.
Additionally, the backpack provides great versatility, as it comes with adjustable loops and an upper shock lock. These loops are perfect for carrying trekking poles or an ice axe, catering to various terrains and adventures.
To elevate convenience, custom comfort grips and zipper pulls have been incorporated. These ensure effortless access to compartments, simplify gear management, and reduce the hassle of fumbling with zippers.
Prioritising safety, the backpack features reflective webbing loops and a front-light loop, enhancing visibility during low-light situations. These thoughtful design elements ensure you can venture into the great outdoors, knowing you'll be seen and safe even in dimly lit environments.
