Two Bags - One Cozy Night The left and right-hand zip models of Rab's Ascent Sleeping bag range can be zipped together to create one roomy double sleeping bag - perfect for cosy nights in the tent when camping with your partner.
What is the Rab Ascent -6C / 20F?
It's a warm and cosy 650FP Duck Down sleeping bag, that boasts a wide mummy shape, for maximum comfort and space with minimal impact on pack size. It's an excellent option for camping, trekking and backpacking across the seasons and a great all-round option for those looking to buy their first down sleeping bag.
What is it made from?
Insulation: This sleeping bag is filled with 480g of 650 fill power, R.D.S Certified, European Duck Down for maximum loft (fluffiness) and insulation.
European Duck Down is fantastic quality down. It has smaller clusters than Goose Down, slightly reducing the warmth-to-weight ratio without impacting the quality of the bag.
The down is treated with a Grangers fluorocarbon-free Hydrophobic finish, which adds light water-resistance to the down itself.
Can't quite catch the lingo? Here's a quick breakdown.
Fill power - Fill power measures the warmth and efficiency of the down, alongside its ability to loft (fluff up). A rating of 650 fill power means that 1oz of this down fills 650 cubic inches of space when fully lofted.
R.D.S - The Responsible Down Standard ensures that the down is sourced from happy birds who haven't been plucked and have been well cared for.
Hydrophobic - Hydrophobic down dries out and lofts more quickly than untreated down, resisting moisture from sweat and condensation that may build up when you're catching z's in the bag. Fluorocarbon-free Hydrophobic finishes don't use harmful chemicals that cause damage to the environment, an excellent feature for more eco-conscious adventurers.
Outer fabric: The outer shell of this sleeping bag is constructed using a lightweight 20D Recycled Pertex® Quantum nylon ripstop. Pertex® Quantum is a tightly woven, lightweight fabric which is fully windproof for protection against blustery conditions and extra warmth retention. Even though recycled, the fabric is still soft and light to the touch, making it packable and comfortable for the user. It's also surprisingly durable for its weight without impacting the down's ability to fully loft.
Lining: The sleeping bag is lined with 20D Recycled Nylon to provide a lightweight, breathable layer that still feels soft and cosy on the skin, that's robust enough to deal with a lifetime of use.
What are its features?
Starting with the bag's structure, the L.O.F.T™ baffle construction features offset baffles to prevent down from migrating inside the chambers, making it more effective. This reduces cold spots across the bag, allowing Rab to achieve the same level of warmth with less down, creating a lighter and more packable sleeping bag.
Sidewall baffles provide maximum loft and comfort for side sleepers, while the wide mummy shape and anatomically shaped footbox offer a relaxed sleeping position for maximum comfort - ideal for fidgety sleepers who need extra wiggle room.
The sleeping bag is fastened with a two-way 3/4 YKK® anti-snag main zip with a down-filled baffle running alongside to prevent cold from entering the bag via the zip. A 1/2-length zip on the other side of the bag provides flexible entry and ventilation options. Anti-snag zip inserts and an anti-snag internal zip guard help to prevent the fabric from getting caught and snagging or tearing on the zips.
Two convenient press studs at the top of the zips let you unzip to free your arms whilst still wearing the sleeping bag, allowing you to retain heat whilst performing tasks in the tent or planning your next day's route.
An anatomically fitted hood with drawcord closure allows you to cinch it in close on cold nights for maximum thermal efficiency, whilst a 3D shaped synthetically filled neck collar helps trap heat inside the sleeping bag.
A zippered internal stash pocket provides a convenient home for smaller items you want to keep close to hand, such as a mobile phone, face mask or earplugs, ensuring they don't get lost at the bottom of the bag during the night.
Two storage sacks are provided with this sleeping bag. One is a larger zipped storage sack with a water-resistant base for optimum home storage, giving the bag more breathing room to protect the down and help increase its overall performance and longevity. The other is a drawcord stuff sack for compact storage on the move with minimal bulk. Stuff sacks are literally meant to be stuffed! So do your best to cram your sleeping bag inside instead of folding the bag neatly away. Stuffing randomly helps to prevent folds and creases in the down, which will prevent cold spots and gaps from developing over time, increasing the lifespan of the bag.
Lastly, the Ascent sleeping bag's left- and right-hand zip models can be joined together to form one big sleeping bag, ideal for cosy nights camping with your partner.
