What is the Neutrino 600?
Lighter than the Neutrino 800 model, the Neutrino 600 is a packable sleeping bag with a high warmth to weight ratio and a specialised women's fit. Rab has constructed this sleeping bag using recycled materials, making it more sustainable than standard sacks.
What is it made from?
Insulation: This sleeping bag uses 800 fill power, R.D.S Certified, European Goose Down for maximum loft (fluffiness) and insulation.
European Goose Down is some of the highest quality down on the current market. Therefore, making this sleeping bag super high grade and efficient, ensuring you get every bang for your buck.
The down is treated with a Nikwax fluorocarbon free Hydrophobic finish, which adds light water resistance to the down itself.
Can't quite catch the lingo? Here's a quick break down.
Fill power - Fill power measures the warmth and efficiency of the down, alongside its ability to loft/fluff up. A rating of 800 fill power means that 1oz of this down fills 800 cubic inches of space when fully lofted.
R.D.S - The Responsible Down Standard ensures that the down is sourced from happy birds who haven't been plucked and have been well cared for.
Hydrophobic - Hydrophobic down dries out and lofts quicker, resisting moisture from sweat and condensation that may build up when you're catching z's in the bag. Fluorocarbon free Hydrophobic finishes don't use harmful chemicals that cause damage to the environment - an excellent feature for more eco-conscious adventurers.
Outer fabric: The outer shell of this sleeping bag is made with 20D Pertex® Quantum Recycled Nylon Ripstop with a fluorocarbon free durable water repellent (DWR). The tightly woven construction of this material helps prevent tears and snags whilst maximising the thermal efficiency of the insulation and helping down to fully loft. Pertex® Quantum is soft to the touch, whilst being fully windproof to retain warmth.
The material thrives in cold, damp environments due to its ultra-thin water resistant DWR coating, providing protection from light moisture alongside wind and cold.
Lining: The Neutrino 600 is lined with 20D Recycled Nylon, which provides a lightweight, breathable inner that still feels soft and cosy on the skin.
What are its features?
Starting at the top of the sleeping bag, the adjustable hood closure system allows you to cover the head whilst leaving the face exposed. Keeping your face out of the bag will help prevent moisture from building up inside from sweat vapour or water particles we breathe out during sleep. The head is one of the body's primary heat sources, so keeping it insulated inside the hood helps regulate body temperature in colder climates.
There is also a close fitting, adjustable neck baffle, helping to decrease heat loss when moving around inside the bag. Tightening the neck baffle will trap heat generated by the body from the neck down, saving it from excessively expending energy to generate warmth, to help rest and recover more efficiently.
The trapezoidal boxwall construction directs more insulation towards the body's surface by forcing the down to sit in a trapezoid shape within each baffle. This construction method is technically enhanced to optimise loft and warmth of the bag. Chevron shaped baffles help reduce movement of the down whilst optimising core warmth, encouraging the down to sit centrally.
The Neutrino 600 has a differential cut, meaning the inner lining and outer fabric are sized differently, often depending on the bag's fill power.
The sleeping bag is fastened with a YKK® 3/4 length main zip on the left side, with a down-filled baffle running alongside to prevent a cold spot at the entry. There's also a handy zippered internal stash pocket, perfect for storing your phone, a torch or alarm clocks.
This product comes in a tapered mummy shape - the slim fit of sleeping bags. Tapered shapes surround the figure comfortably and prevent cold gaps/heat loss from excessive space, making them the most thermally efficient style of sleeping bags. The angled foot box allows a natural, relaxed sleeping posture by providing extra wiggle room around the feet, ideal for fidgety sleepers!
Two storage bags are included with this sleeping bag. The zipped cotton sack is designed to store your sleeping bag at home and give it more breathing room. Storing the bag in a more spacious pack allows the down filling to remain lofted, helping to increase its overall performance and lifespan.
A small waterproof stuffsack is also provided to compact the bag and carry it on the move with less bulk. Stuffsacks are literally meant to be stuffed! So do your best to cram your sleeping bag inside instead of folding the bag away. Stuffing randomly helps to prevent folds and creases in the down, which will prevent cold spots and gaps from developing.
