What is the Aerostat Down Mat?

The Aerostat Down Mat is a down filled sleeping mat designed to offer the highest levels of warmth, comfort and durability in varied conditions. The high quality down layer offers reliable insulation, creating a barrier between the cold ground and your sleeping bag to prevent conductive heat loss throughout the night.

What is it made of?

Insulation: 180g of 90-10 Pure Duck Down is used to fill and insulate the sleeping mat, with a minimum fill power of 700. The down in this product also comes from a Down Codex® Audited Source, making it a much more ethical and sustainable option than lesser quality down on the market.

Can't quite catch the lingo? Here's a quick break down.

Fill power - Fill power measures the warmth and efficiency of the down, alongside its ability to loft/fluff up. A rating of 700 fill power means that 1oz of this down fills 700 cubic inches of space when fully lofted.

Down Codex® Audited Source - Having a Down Codex® Audited Source stamp indicates that there was no unnecessary harm caused to ducks or geese when collecting the down and that it came from an ethical, traceable source.

Outer: The mat is constructed with 30D Ripstop polyester - a tough, lightweight material that can withstand abrasion from rough surfaces whilst being highly packable. The material is finished with a TPU lamination for added water resistance, helping protect your mat from spills in the tent or light contact with rain in challenging weather.

What are its features?

The Aerostat Down Mat is designed using vertically aligned baffles with Helix™ technology. The Helix™ Baffle helps reduce the down migration by restricting it into slimmer baffles to keep it evenly distributed.

A Gas Mask valve provides a two-way system for inflation and deflation of the mat. This valve helps to prevent air from escaping during the inflation process yet allows a quick air dump when it's time to pack up camp and get moving. Mountain Equipment has developed the Gas Mask valve design to make it easier to use and each part easily identifiable.

A Windsock™ comes with the mat, specially developed by Mountain Equipment for rapid, easy inflation using minimal accessories and little puff - so you can wave goodbye to a queazy head whilst setting up camp! The Windsock® also prevents moisture from getting inside the mat, helping to avoid negative impact on the thermal efficiency and preventing rotting from the inside. Gently blow into the Windsock® from a slight distance - this draws in dry air from the surroundings and allows quick inflation.

Repair patches are supplied with the mat, handy if the mat gets damaged during use or while being carried around with other pieces of kit.

Features:

  • 180g of 90-10 Pure Duck Down with a minimum fill power of 700
  • Vertically aligned baffles with Helix technology to reduce down migration
  • 30D ripstop polyester with TPU lamination
  • 2-way self-sealing Gas Mask valve for inflation and deflation
  • Supplied Windsock™ inflates mat easily and doubles as lightweight stuff sack
  • Supplied with repair patches
  • R Value: 5.0, tested to ASTM F3340
