What is the Abisko Friluft 2?
It's a lightweight two-person tent with a good head height that prioritises ventilation and comfort for camping in warm weather. The flysheet is a throw-over design, meaning the inner tent is pitched first, giving you the flexibility to just use the inner tent on hot, dry nights (not very likely in the UK, sorry).
The Abisko Friluft 2 is surprisingly spacious and weighs just over 2kg, making it an excellent choice for multi-day hiking and trekking with your trail buddies (furry companions included).
What is it made from?
Fly: The main bulk of the fabric used by the Abisko Friluft 2 is Fjallraven's 20 denier lightweight TripleRip fabric. This tear resistant and extremely light fabric will pack down to very little and weighs next to nothing. It's made from 100% polyamide and has a hydrostatic head of 3000mm, giving you peace of mind, even during wet and windy nights.
Inner: The inner is made from a lightweight yet durable 15 denier Ripstop nylon, made from 100% polyamide. The fabric is finished with a PFC-Free DWR to help shed any rouge rain droplets that may have been blown under the fly sheet.
Floor: The tent's floor is constructed from a durable 40 denier 100% polyamide (nylon) PU-coated fabric that's tough enough to cope with the general wear and tear of regular use without impacting the tent's overall pack size. The PU coating provides a hydrostatic head rating of 10,000mm to protect you and your belongings from waking up with a soggy bottom. Although the ground sheet is durable, we'd still recommend using an additional footprint (sold separately) to protect your tent further, allowing it to remain in great condition for many years to come.
Mesh: The lightweight 20 denier No-see-um polyester mesh provides fantastic ventilation and air circulation. No-see-um mesh is fine enough to keep even the smallest of unwanted bugs out, meaning that you can enjoy a peaceful night under the stars, should you wish (dry weather only).
Poles: The tent is erected with DAC Featherlite poles created from lightweight and extremely strong aluminium. The poles are 9.3mm wide and feature a cross-over pole construction, allowing the tent to support itself, providing stability and strength in windy conditions. The pole's internal elasticated cord is made from high-quality silicone, which is flexible and reliable, even in cold temperatures.
What are its features?
Entry: The Abisko Friluft 2 has two generous entrances with vestibules, allowing you to have one wet and one dry entry/exit, which helps to keep the inner tent nice and dry, making tent life a breeze.
Space: With room for two people, the spacious 28ft² floor area has a generous sitting height of 106cm. It offers a comfortable amount of usable space for relaxing and cooking inside the tent on wet and windy nights.
Storage: Four mesh pockets are inside to help keep you and your tent buddies' gear well organised, whilst two vestibules provide space for storing bulky or wet items, such as a rucksack and walking boots.
Ventilation: For ventilation, there are two vents, one at either end, which can be pegged out to maximise airflow. The flysheet also has ventilation points to ensure optimum airflow and reduce condensation build-up.
Guys, Attachments & Pegs:
The Abisko Friluft 2 uses 1.7 mm reflective Dyneema guylines to increase visibility to prevent literal night-time trips. The guylines have double adjustments for increased strength, helping the tent to withstand prolonged use during harsh conditions.
The tent uses small DAC V-pegs made from light and strong aluminium. The pegs have a narrow "waist" that holds guy lines in place when the pegs are used as horizontal anchors in loose earth or sand. A Dyneema cord loop at the top of each peg makes pulling them out of the ground easier.
Robust, premium quality zippers are used throughout the tent, all with auto-lock zips so they won't start to creep undone in strong winds.
