What are the Guide GTX Mitts?
They're warm, waterproof, and functionally insulated mitts, ideal for all manner of challenging mountain adventures in cold climates. They utilise the latest Gore-Tex® Plus Warm, ePE technology and PrimaLoft® Gold insulation to deliver a balance of warmth, waterproof protection and dexterity.
What are they made from?
The Guide GTX Mitts combine Gore-Tex® Plus Warm ePE technology, a cosy high pile lining, durable Goat's leather, and PrimaLoft® Gold insulation to deliver a balance of warmth, waterproof protection and dexterity.
For warmth, Rab has used lightweight PrimaLoft® Gold insulation in a mapped construction for reliable warmth when the pace slows and outstanding thermal efficiency in the wet. PrimaLoft® Gold is a cosy and breathable synthetic insulation that's highly efficient with lower bulk and weight. The small fibres of this insulation provide maximum thermal efficiency; they're thinner than human hair, and the thinner the fibres, the warmer the insulation will be. The mapped construction maximises cold weather protection without hindering the glove's dexterity.
For waterproof protection, Rab has used Gore-Tex® Plus Warm with the latest ePE membrane technology. This Plus Warm variety of Gore-Tex® has been specially developed to enhance the mitt's insulation, to help your hands stay warmer for longer in challenging environments, whilst still remaining breathable for effective moisture transportation.
If you were wondering, the latest Gore-Tex® technology uses an ePE membrane, which stands for expanded polyethene, which is light, thin yet durable, and PFC-free. PFC's are also known as 'forever chemicals' because they stay permanently in the environment and cause lasting damage to our ecosystems. Therefore, many companies are working towards a completely PFC-free future and this breakthrough from Gore-Tex® is a real game changer in responsible waterproof protection. In addition, this membrane has a reduced carbon footprint, as it uses laminates with a lower-mass membrane and select textiles, making it an ideal choice for more environmentally conscious adventurers.
The palm is made from Goat's leather for the ideal balance of durability, grip and dexterity.
What are their features?
The mitts feature a 3D pre-curved construction for maximum dexterity, which, combined with the durable Goat's leather palm, helps you better handle various equipment, gear and ropes whilst wearing them. A designated nose wipe panel on the back, sounds gross but is a blessing when you get the sniffles!
A single-handed dual drawcord adjustment allows you to cinch them in over various layers for a snug fit to keep the cold at bay. The mittens are finished with a removable leash that secures them at the wrists to eliminate the risk of dropping them on the mountain.
