What are the Norste Pants?
The Norste Pants are reliable and comfortable waterproof over trousers, designed for long days out in the mountains when wet weather has set in. Ideal for hiking, trekking, hill walking, and everyday exploring in wet climates, they offer dependable waterproof protection and natural movement to make the most of the day, despite the weather. Light, yet durable, they're ideal for year-round use in wet climates.
Materials & Technology
PERTEX® Shield 3-Layer Waterproof Fabric
The Norste Pants are built using three-layer PERTEX® Shield, which is a soft, highly breathable, waterproof fabric designed for low bulk protection in the mountains when weight and breathability are key.
The trousers' three-layer construction combines a waterproof, windproof and breathable membrane, robust 40D polyamide face fabric and a 20D tricot backer.
The 40-denier recycled nylon ripstop outer offers good levels of abrasion resistance for regular use with backpacks while remaining lightweight. Whilst the 20-denier tricot backer, protects the waterproof membrane from abrasion and improves next-to-skin comfort and durability when worn over various trouser styles.
The trousers feel reassuringly sturdy yet still soft, and packable, making them ideal for stashing in your rucksack ready for wet weather, without taking up heaps of space.
Waterproof Performance
Pertex® Shield delivers a hydrostatic head rating of 20,000mm for dependable waterproof protection in prolonged wet conditions. Whilst a breathability MVTR score of 20,000 g/m2/24hrs allows excess heat and moisture to escape throughout the day to keep you feeling comfortable on challenging sections of trail.
Non-Fluorocarbon DWR Finish
The outer fabric is treated with a non-fluorocarbon DWR (durable water repellent) coating to encourage rain to bead off the surface of the trousers, without the use of harmful forever chemicals.
Features and Functionality
Full-Length Side Zips for Easy Access
The Norste Pants feature full-length side zips for quick and easy on-off over various chunky boots and trail shoes, reducing time spent faffing and getting wet when the heavens open. The zips also double up as effective ventilation, allowing you to dump heat quickly if you start to work up a bit of a sweat on steep climbs.
Storm-Ready Construction
The trousers utilise a three-layer Pertex® Shield construction with fully taped seams and an internal storm zip placket for maximum reliable waterproof performance in wet conditions, making them suitable for hiking, trekking, and generally exploring the outdoors on wet and stormy days.
Adjustable Waist for Secure Fit
The trousers feature an elasticated waistband with drawcord adjustment to provide a comfortable yet secure fit that won't slip down as you move. This simple waistband works well over base layers or various hiking trousers without adding unnecessary bulk to the trousers, whilst the waterproof zipped fly allows for quick access when nature calls.
Offset Seams for Enhanced Durability
Montane has used a clever offset seam construction throughout the trousers to enhance comfort levels and provide added durability across the seams. The minimal seams are fully taped for maximum weather protection.
